BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team lost to The State University of New York at Buffalo Friday (May 20) afternoon, 4-0, at Audubon Field. Buffalo scored two runs in the third inning, and one run in the fourth and eighth innings to claim the victory.
"We just didn't do anything at the plate today," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "But I thought we got great pitching for the second consecutive game. Brad Croy did a really nice job, and Trevor Farrell got an important out, as well. We have a chance to win the series tomorrow with a win."
After Zac Carey allowed three runs over 4.1 innings, Croy entered the game in the fifth with the bases loaded and only one out. The right-hander got a huge strikeout for the second out, before leaving the bases loaded.
Croy went on to pitch scoreless innings in the sixth, and seventh, before surrendering an unearned run in the eighth. Farrell came in and left a couple of runners on base to get the ballgame into the ninth.
Carey was able to get out his 4.1 innings on short rest. Due to last Saturday's game against Kent State turning into a doubleheader due to rain, Carey was forced to pitch on Sunday. Therefore, he was pitching two days earlier than normal.
For the second straight day, Nick Glanzman went 2-for-3 at the plate. Bowling Green's other hits were recorded by Greg Basalyga, Derek Drewes, Riley Minorik and Justin Mott.
Bowling Green will wrap up the 2016 season tomorrow with a 1 p.m. first pitch. Seniors Kory Brown, Devin Daugherty, Tyler Greiner, Andrew Lacinak and Matt Smith will be playing in their final games in the Orange and Brown.
Heading into the final day of the season, a pair of Falcons have a chance to shatter program records. If Daugherty pitches, he will break the school record for most appearances in a single season. Daugherty has appeared in 29 games to date, which matches the amount of games that Nick Bruns appeared in during the 2013 season. With a save, Tony Landi will also claim a school record. Landi is currently tied for the record for saves in a single season with eight.
