Women's Golf Cards a Successful Third Round at Cardinal Classic

YORKTOWN, Ind. – The Bowling Green women's golf team rounded out the second day of action at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Ball State, with a third round team score of 301. The mark earned the Falcons an 11th place finish in the tournament, after carding team scores of 316 and 307 in the first two rounds, ultimately finishing with a final team score of 924, +60.
"I'm excited about the improvement in the team score and to move up on the team board today," Bowling Green women's golf head coach Stephanie Young said. "There was an outstanding effort by Erin Fahey, who led the team for the second event in a row."
After tallying a third round score of 75, sophomore Erin Fahey finished on top of the Falcons lineup for the second tournament in a row and tied for 19th-place overall. The Austin, Texas native carded scores of 77, 74, and 75 for a two-day total of 226, +10.
Freshman Brooke Nolte came in at the second spot on the Bowling Green rankings by carding a low round of 74 Tuesday morning. The native of Melissa, Texas earned scores of 76 and 82 on the first day of action for a two-day total of 232, +16 and ultimately tied for 43rd overall by notching a team-leading 38 pars over the course of the tournament.
After shooting a third round of 78, senior Fran Rodriguez finished in a tie for 46th-place. The Flower Mound, Texas native marked scores of 79 and 76 in the first and second rounds, respectively, and earned a two-day total of 233, +17 at the tournament after making a total of 37 pars.
Sophomore Sarah Kern made her collegiate debut for the Falcons at the Cardinal Classic this week with a final score of 239, +23, and led the squad with seven birdies throughout the tournament. Kern made a dramatic improvement from her scores of 84 and 81 in the first two rounds, and came back to shoot a low round of 74 to close out the second day of action. The third round result also boosted the Springboro, Ohio native up in the standings from 82nd place yesterday, to a final placing of 65th today.
Rounding out the Falcons team lineup was junior Madelynn Swank, who tallied rounds of 84, 76, and 81, leading to a tournament total score of 241, +25.
"It was great to have Brooke Nolte and Sarah Kern lead the effort today, and it was extra special that it was Sarah's first event," added Coach Young.
The Bowling Green women's golf team will be back in action Oct. 3-4 when they compete in the Kzoo Classic, hosted by Western Michigan.
