September 04, 2016 | Women's Golf
Day One Results
Normal, Ill. – The Bowling Green State University women's golf program carded team rounds of 313 and 310 to end day one tied for ninth on the team leaderboard with a two round combined score of 623, +47 at the Redbird Invitational at the par 72, 6070-yard Weibring Golf Club. The Falcons will enter the third and final round of play on Monday, Sept. 5, tied with Western Illinois for ninth place in the standings in the 54-hole and 14 team tournament.
"Today's performance fell short of what we wanted to accomplish as a team in our opening rounds. We will regroup tonight and be ready for tomorrow's final round," Bowling Green women's golf head coach Stephanie Young said. "Erin Fahey had a solid start to the season with a 75 and then finished strong with an even par 72. She led us in a big way today."
BGSU was led by sophomore Erin Fahey, as the Austin, Texas native rounded out the first day of competition tied for fifth overall with a two-round mark of 147, +3. Fahey posted rounds of 75 and 72 for a total of 147, +3, to sit in a tie for fifth-place overall on the individual leaderboard.
Three Falcons are currently tied for 52nd overall, as senior Fran Rodriguez, freshman Brooke Nolte and junior Madelynn Swank carded totals of 159, +15 after 36 holes of play.
Nolte bounced back from a first round 81, to shoot a 78 on the afternoon round to conclude day one in a tie for 52nd-place with two other Falcons. Matching her after two rounds was Rodriguez, who carded scores of 78 and 81, while Swank came in at 80 in the morning, and 79 in the afternoon.
Senior Mikayla Baer also turned in scores of 80 and 86 in the first and second rounds, respectively, for a two-round total of 166, +22 after the first day of competition.
As a team, the Falcons tallied eight birdies and 46 pars, while Fahey earned four birdies and a -1 mark on par 5 scoring.
The Falcons, who have three top-three team finishes at the Redbird Invitational over the last four years, will look to continue their strong play over the third round of play tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 5, which is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
