Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University track and field team posted 11 top-three finishes and Elizabeth Iversen earned a Mid-American Conference automatic qualifying mark in the shot put as the Falcons competed at the Doug Raymond Invitational Saturday, hosted by Kent State.
Youngstown State, Ohio, Kent State and Duquesne competed at the meet, which was scored in dual meet format. Despite not entering any student-athletes in distances longer than 400 meters, the Falcons defeated Ohio 73-64. Kent State beat BGSU 93-51, Duquesne edged the Falcons 76-63 and Youngstown State picked up a 75-61 victory.The Falcons swept the top three spots in the shot as defending MAC outdoor champion Aliyah Gustafson threw 50-feet-2.5.
Iversen joined Gustafson and Makenzie Wheat as a MAC auto qualifier by throwing 48-10.25. Wheat had an identical distance as Iversen at the meet.
Iversen also performed well in the weight throw, placing second with a mark of 58-8. Kayla Velasquez added a third-place finish at 57-0.75 and Kaila Butler was sixth at 53-10.25.
BGSU's other event victory came in the 60 as Dorresha Green outsprinted the competition with a time of 7.72 seconds. Cortisha Short was fifth at 7.86 seconds.
The Falcons had two runners post a sub-10.0 time in the 60 hurdles. Chasatea Brown ran a 9.41 and BeJai Fray recorded a new collegiate personal best of 9.48 seconds. Brown added a PR in the 200 at 25.90 seconds. While Brown was the third-fastest Falcon in the 200, Cortisha Short rung up a second place result with a time of 25.34 seconds. Taylor Rambo was fifth in 25.72.
Rambo, in fact, continued to bring down her time in the 400. She had a season best time of 56.61 seconds to place second. The 1600 relay team of Green, Camerone Bryant, Rachel Stute and Mis'cha Sellers ended third with a season best time of 3:59.48.
BGSU also fared well in the long jump. Fray leaped 18-0.5 to place second and Kyle Paster was third at 17-10.25.
"We made good progress in several events today," BGSU Track and Field Coach Lou Snelling said. "I would expect to see more next Friday at home."
Bowling Green will return home Friday to host Toledo in the annual Tom Wright Open at 5 pm in Perry Field House. The meet will serve as Senior Night for the Falcons, recognizing 10 seniors in track and field, as well as men's and women's cross country.
