Falcons Open Spring Season At Ohio State

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team begins the spring season Friday morning, taking on the Buckeyes of Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio at 10 a.m.
The Orange and Brown had a successful fall season with two flight champions in singles and doubles. All members of the team who competed in the fall picked up at least four wins in singles for the Falcons.
Sophomore Paula Comella and freshman Marharita-Sophia Tavpash both won flight singles championships at the Raider Invitational. Tavpash, who led the Falcons with a 9-3 record and Comella who ended the fall with a six singles victories. Also at the Raider Invitational, the two paired up in doubles to capture a flight title. Comella and Tavpash finished the fall with a 5-2 record.
To close out the fall portion of the schedule, the Falcons had Comella, sophomore Polina Radeva, Tavpash, and freshmen and Ayumi Sasaki compete at ITA Regionals held at Michigan State.
The eight-player roster features two seniors (Antonina Farrar and Leeah Floyd), one junior (Emily Witt), two sophomores (Comella and Radeva), and two freshmen (Sasaki and Tavpash).
"There's no better way to start another season than playing against one of the best teams in the country," head coach Stephanie Dalmacio said. "We are ready and excited to compete and have some fun on the court."
No. 7 Ohio State opens the spring portion of their schedule this weekend. This is the 17th meeting between the Falcons and the Buckeyes. Ohio State enters the spring with four ranked players in sophomore Francesca Di Lorenzo (No. 1), junior Anna Sanford (No. 41), senior Miho Kowase (No. 59) and junior Olivia Sneed (No. 88). A year ago, OSU went 31-3 overall and 11-0 in the Big Ten. At the Big Ten Tournament the Buckeyes would defeat Wisconsin 4-0 in the quarterfinals, Illinois 4-0 in the semifinals and went on to win the championship match against Michigan 4-2 to claim the title. Ohio State advanced to the NCAA Tournament defeating Youngstown State, UCLA and Georgia Tech. The Buckeyes fell to Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals, 4-2.
The Falcons will face to IUPUI Friday (Jan. 27) at 1 p.m. at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
