NOTE OF THE DAY
>> The Falcons had a total of three double-doubles during all of last year, but BGSU has tripled that total in 2016-17, with nine this season to date. Sophomore Carly Santoro posted her team-leading fourth of the season on Wednesday (Jan. 25), with BG-best totals of 18 points and 13 rebounds.
>> Senior Ashley Tunstall also had a double-double vs. the Eagles, with 15 points and 11 boards. Senior Abby Siefker has had three double-doubles and Tunstall two this year to date. Both of Tunstall's have come in MAC play.
A TRADITION OF SUCCESS
>> Bowling Green has won 14 MAC regular-season championships and 11 league tournament titles, the highest totals among all conference teams. Prior to the injury-plagued season of 2014-15, the Falcons had won at least 20 games in a MAC-record 11 consecutive seasons. BG won at least 24 games in nine-straight seasons during that span, losing just 18 total games in MAC regular-season play during those nine years.
>> The Falcons made 10 consecutive national postseason trips from 2005-14, with five NCAA Championships appearances and five trips to the WNIT during that time. The 2006-07 team was the most successful in MAC history, winning a league-record 31 games en route to an NCAA 'Sweet Sixteen' appearance.
>> Overall, BGSU has won 20 or more games 19 times, the highest total among all Mid-American Conference women's basketball-playing institutions.
SCOUTING KSU
Kent State is 10-10 on the season, and the Golden Flashes have a 4-4 record in MAC play. KSU saw a three-game winning streak come to an end with a 93-72 loss at Northern Illinois on Wednesday night. That streak included road victories over Ohio and Western Michigan along with a home win vs. Toledo. The Flashes are 5-3 at home, 4-5 on the road and 1-2 at neutral sites. In MAC play, KSU is 1-2 at the M.A.C. Center and 3-2 away from home. Larissa Lurken is averaging a team-leading 22.8 points per game, and also has a KSU-best 6.6 rebounds per contest. Lurken has hit 44 three-point field goals this year, and leads the team in assists, steals and blocked shots. Jordan Korinek has 14.4 ppg and 6.0 rpg, while McKenna Stephens has 7.6 ppg and 5.1 rpg. Five other Flashes are scoring between 3.8 and 5.6 ppg. First-year coach Todd Starkey and the Golden Flashes already have topped last year's win totals, both overall and in the MAC. The 2015-16 team went 6-23 overall and 3-15 in conference play.
THE SERIES
The Falcons lead Kent State, 54-30, in the all-time series between the teams, and BGSU won each of last year's two meetings. The Brown and Orange hit 15 three-pointers en route to a 71-49 win at the Stroh Center (Jan. 20, 2016), then picked up a 65-55 victory at the M.A.C. Center exactly one month later (Feb. 20, 2016). Two years ago, the Golden Flashes won both meetings, snapping a streak which had seen BGSU win eight-straight games and 21-of-22 contests vs. KSU. The Flashes won 12-straight series matchups, and 17-of-18 meetings, before BG captured 13 in a row. Then, after Kent State won a 44-43 decision six years ago (Jan. 15, 2011), the Falcons won eight consecutive games before the two losses in 2015. BGSU is 26-11 in home games (including 5-1 in the Stroh), 21-17 on the road and 7-2 at neutral sites vs. KSU over the years. Jennifer Roos is 7-2 against the Flashes as a collegiate head coach.
UP NEXT
Following the KSU game, the Falcons will have a midweek bye before beginning the second half of the MAC schedule with a Saturday (Feb. 4) game vs. Akron. That contest starts at 12:30 p.m. at the Stroh.
