October 16, 2017 | Volleyball
CLEVELAND, Ohio – After an 18.0 block weekend, freshman Katie Kidwell was named East Division Defensive Player of the Week by the Mid-American Conference, announced Monday.
At the net, Kidwell continued to be a defensive force for the Bowling Green squad, as she totaled 18.0 blocks in a pair of conference victories. A native of Watseka, Ill., Kidwell led the team both nights, as she earned one solo block and seven block assists for 8.0 against the Eastern Michigan offense, before putting up 10.0 in the sweep of Central Michigan. With the one solo block and nine block assist for a total of 10.0 against the Chippewas, Kidwell marked just one shy of her career-best of 11.0 blocks (at Kent State, Sept. 29).
Kidwell's performance helped the Falcons go on an early 4-0 run at the start of the third set as she jumped for back-to-back blocks, while the Falcons posted a total of 16.0 team blocks on the night, which ties their season-high (16.0 at Kent State, Sept. 29). Additionally, Kidwell marked an error-free reception, as well as a strong .238 hitting percentage on the weekend.
It is Kidwell's second MAC Player of the Week award of the season, after also being honored by the MAC on Oct. 2. The Falcons have now picked up seven of eight Defensive Player of the Week awards by the Mid-American Conference this season.
The Bowling Green volleyball program continues MAC play this Friday, Oct. 20, as it hits the road to face Ball State and Toledo, looking to defend its seven-match win streak.
