October 30, 2017 | Volleyball
CLEVELAND, Ohio – With a 59 dig weekend, junior libero Kallie Seimet has been named Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week for the seventh time this season. The seven Player of the Week nods sets a Bowling Green volleyball program record of awards by a single player in a single season.
A native of Oregon, Ohio, Seimet continued to be a defensive force for the Falcons as she posted a team-high of 33 digs in the 3-1 win over Miami at home, which marked her eighth 30+ dig match of the season, while the victory marked the team's first win over Miami since Oct. 31, 2013. With an error-free reception against the RedHawks, Seimet also posted six straight matches of perfect serve receive.
Seimet then recorded her 17th 20+ dig match of the season when she earned a team-high of 26 at Western Michigan. Seimet has now reached 1,428 career digs, which ranks sixth overall in Bowling Green volleyball program history, while the junior also set a new career-high mark and program record of 45 digs in the MAC opener at Miami (Sept. 21).
Seimet continues to lead the nation in all of Division I women's volleyball with her 6.88 digs per set average, with the next closest player at 6.25 digs per set (Courtney Pence, Illinois State). By totaling 691 digs this season, the junior libero also ranks second in the nation in total digs.
Overall, the Falcons have claimed nine of the season's ten Defensive Player of the Week awards thus far as freshman Katie Kidwell has earned two nods in addition to Seimet's seven in the 2017 campaign.
The Bowling Green volleyball program will be back in action this Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4 at home as they welcome MAC foes Ohio and Kent State. Friday's match against the Bobcats is set for 7 p.m., while Saturday's Senior Night against Kent State is scheduled for a 5 p.m. first serve.
