Volleyball Announces 2016 Season Team Awards

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University volleyball program and head volleyball coach Danijela Tomic presented its 2016 team awards at a team gathering on Sunday, April 23. The annual team awards dinner was held at Stone Ridge Golf Club. Members of the staff, players, and supporters enjoyed an evening reflecting on the 21-win season that saw the Falcons reach the semifinals at the MAC Tournament.

The 2016 volleyball team award winners were:

WILLIAM J. LLOYD SUPPORTERS OF THE YEAR - Chris and Ellen Dalton

Presented to the person(s) who has/have gone above and beyond in support of BGSU Volleyball.

OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD - Isabel Kovacic (36 hours)

Presented to the player who made contributions to Bowling Green community by performing the most volunteering hours.
- A few of Isabel's service activities included time with:
  - Feed My Starving Children
  - Lil' Falcons
  - MAC Gymnastics Championships
  - MLK Day of Service

PATRICIA PETERSON ACADEMIC AWARD - Delaney Arkeilpane and Celena Kanagin (4.0 GPA)

Presented to the player who exemplifies academic excellence and has the highest GPA the last two semesters (spring & fall).

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER - Isabelle Marciniak

It is presented to the player who shows the most improvement over the duration of the season and demonstrates a willingness to learn and grow as a volleyball player.

FALCON AWARD - Delaney Arkeilpane

It is presented to the player who embraces team values and exemplifies commitment, dedication and loyalty to the women's volleyball program.

BG WARRIOR AWARD - Alyssa Maloney

This is awarded to any player on the team voted by the players and coaches. Presented to the player who exhibits mental toughness on and off the court.

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER - Jelena Sunjic

The winner will have had the largest impact on the team on and off the court in a positive way. Winning this award encompasses dedication to the team, putting teammates and coaches first, maximum effort at the player's position and contribution to the team being victorious.

COACHES AWARD - Madeline Garda

This is awarded to any player on the team voted by the coaching staff. Presented to the player who demonstrates the most leadership, team spirit, hard work, positive attitude and inspires everyone to perform better.

AWARD OF APPRECIATION - Rey Valdez (Athletic Training Graduate Assistant)

Rey has served as the program's athletic trainer for the past two seasons, and has shown an incredible amount of dedication and passion towards the program.
