
Spezia Wins Gold at 2017 IIHF Inline World Championship

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia – By a score of 4-2 over Finland, Tyler Spezia and the U.S. National Inline Team claimed the gold medal at the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Inline World Championship Saturday evening.
Spezia, a senior forward of the Bowling Green hockey team made the 14-man USA Hockey inline team roster for the third time in his career after competing in 2014 in Pardubice, Czech Republic and 2015 in Tampere, Finland. The Clinton Township, Mich. native earned a bronze medal at the 2014 event.
Team USA went 6-0 over the course of the tournament, while Spezia excelled in the final bracket by tallying a total of 10 shots on goal. The forward also highlighted the 5-4 semifinal victory by scoring against the Czech Republic on Friday afternoon.
The U.S. has medaled in all but five of the 20 IIHF Inline World Championships previously staged, including seven gold medals (1996, 1997, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2013, 2017).
