Volleyball Downs Fort Wayne in Preseason Exhibition

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Bowling Green volleyball program unofficially kicked off the 2017 season with an exhibition match at Fort Wayne Saturday afternoon. The Falcons were able to down the Mastodons by a 3-2 score, while senior Nicole Slimko led the team with 22 kills on the day.
The Falcons started out strong by claiming the first two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-17, respectively. Fort Wayne was then able to fight back to rebound by a 25-20 victory in the third game, followed by a narrow extra-point win in the fourth by 26-24. Bowling Green was then able to close out the exhibition victorious by a strong 15-8 mark.
A native of Crystal Lake, Ill., Slimko led the Falcons offensively by tallying 22 of the Falcons 49 kills on the night. She also registered a team-leading .375 attack percentage, paired with one block assist.
Defensively, junior Kallie Seimet marked 23 digs, while sophomore Isabelle Marciniak notched 14 digs of her own. Marciniak also led the Falcons at the line with three aces, in addition to two block assists over the course of the five sets. Additionally, freshman Katie Kidwell opened her collegiate career by tallying a team-leading six block assists on the night as well.
All 15 players on the Falcons roster appeared in the exhibition matchup, where Bowling Green held the advantage of service aces (8-2) and total team blocks (11.0-9.0) over the Mastodons.
The Falcons will officially open the season on Friday, Aug. 25 when it welcomes Duquesne, UIC and Xavier to the Stroh Center for the annual Hampton Inn Invitational.
