September 18, 2017 | Volleyball
CLEVELAND, Ohio – After setting a program record in a 3-2 comeback victory over Seton Hall Saturday night, junior libero Kallie Seimet was named Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the East Division for the third consecutive week.
A native of Oregon, Ohio, Seimet set a Bowling Green volleyball program record when she tallied 44 digs in the five-set win over Seton Hall at the VCU Invitational, surpassing Madeline Garda's previous record of 40 digs set last season against Drake (Sept. 10, 2016). The Falcons rebounded after being down two sets to claim its 700th win in program history, while it is also a career-high mark for Seimet. The libero shattered her previous career-high of 36 digs that was set last weekend in the NKU Invitational, which had earned her second MAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition of the season.
Over the course of the three-match VCU Invitational, Seimet led the Bowling Green squad defensively by averaging 6.36 digs per set, and tallied double-digit digs in each of the Falcons three matches. Seimet had also marked 16 digs against Big Ten-opponent Northwestern, while on the season she has tallied 20-plus digs in seven of 11 matches thus far.
In the 2017 campaign, Seimet has now marked 256 digs and averages 5.95 digs per set, which ranks sixth overall in the nation in Division I digs per set. This is Seimet's third MAC Player of the Week honor of her career.
