November 16, 2018 | Volleyball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University volleyball program head coach Danijela Tomic has announced the signing of two incoming student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.
Madelynn Luebcke of Stevensville, Mich. and Lexie Sauber of Wauseon, Ohio will join the program as freshmen in the 2019 season.
"We are thrilled to officially welcome Madelynn and Lexi to our Falcon family," Tomic said. "They both come from great families who installed character traits that we look for in our players. They played for competitive and successful high schools and clubs, and know how to win."
Luebcke is the daughter of Jeffrey and Amanda Luebcke. At 6-foot-2, Luebcke is a multi-sport athlete who lettered in track and field, and volleyball at Lakeshore High School. She was featured on the varsity volleyball squad all four years as an outside hitter, and was named All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2017, Second Team All-Conference in 2018, and Academic All-State.
"Madelynn is mature beyond her age, an outstanding student and a versatile player who can play multiple positions," Coach Tomic said. "She has an impressive arm swing and will definitely upgrade our offense.
Under head coach Jillian Klunder, Luebcke and her teammates were District Runner-Ups in 2015, advanced to District Semifinals in 2016, and were District Champions in 2018.
Luebcke also competed with the Dunes Volleyball Club program as a middle, where the incoming BGSU Falcon was named an Ultra Ankle Watch List Athlete in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
Luebcke will be graduating early from Lakeshore High School, and will enroll at BGSU this upcoming January.
At Bowling Green, Luebcke plans to major in finance, and will work towards a career as an investment banker.
"We are excited that Madelynn will join us in January and have a chance to train with us in the spring when we focus on individual player development," said Tomic.

Sauber is the daughter of Bowling Green alumni Dave and Andrea Sauber. Dave was a member of the Falcons' football team during his years as an undergrad.
Lexi is a 6-foot senior at Wauseon High School, where she letters in basketball, track, and volleyball. The senior was a Triple W Award honoree in 2015 for earning three varsity letters in a single academic year.
Sauber played varsity volleyball at Wauseon all four years under head coach Bill Blanchong, and was named captain of the team during her junior and senior seasons. This season, Sauber and her teammates earned Wauseon High School its first NWOAL Championship in over 25 years. Sauber reached 1,000 kills in the championship match. Wauseon were also District Champions this season.
"Lexi is a strong, athletic, and very competitive middle who plays high above the net and loves to block," Tomic said. "She has many leadership traits that helped her be a go-to player and a leader on her high school and club teams."
The Northwestern Ohio native accumulated many honors throughout her athletic and academic career at Wauseon. In 2017 and 2018, she earned successive District 7 Player of the Year honors, and was named back-to-back NWOAL Player of the Year. Sauber was also awarded the 2017 OHSVCA Academic Award for having a 4.0 GPA as a student-athlete.
Sauber will join Isabelle Marciniak and Katelyn Meyer as the latest Premier Volleyball Academy athlete on the Bowling Green volleyball roster.
Sauber committed to Bowling Green to "play for a team who bred winners and go-getters."
"We love Lexi's competitiveness and desire to be a Falcon, and continue her family tradition," Tomic said.
At Bowling Green, Sauber plans to pursue degree in graphic design.
