December 04, 2018 | Women's Track and Field
Allendale, Mich. - Bowling Green State University distance runners Rachel Walny and Kelsie Mothersead will compete in the 5,000 Friday at the GVSU Holiday Open. Running events begin at 3:00 pm and the 5,000 follows the preliminary rounds of the 60 hurdles and the 60.
Walny, a redshirt senior, placed sixth in the 5,000 at the MAC Championships a year ago and was an honorable mention All-American during the outdoor season in the 10,000. She holds three of the top four times in program history, with a personal best time of 16:46.27, about six seconds shy of the school record of 16:40.7.
Mothersead, a redshirt junior, has a personal best time of 19:19.15 in the 5000. She has also competed in the mile and 3000 during previous indoor seasons, as well as the steeplechase for outdoor campaigns.
For both Walny and Mothersead, the meet will kick off their track and field seasons. As a team, the Falcons hosted the BG Opener during the past weekend but distance runners did not compete for BGSU.
