Talisa Lemke's One-Meter Diving Title Highlights Day Two of 2018 MAC Championships
February 22, 2018 | Women's Swimming & Diving
ATHENS, Ohio – The rebirth of Bowling Green State University diving reached its apex when Talisa Lemke captured the 2018 Mid-American Conference championship in the one-meter competition on Thursday night (Feb. 22). Lemke set a new school record in the event for the sixth time by shattering her previous record (305.15) with a cumulative 319.65. She became the first BGSU diver to win a MAC championship since Angie Gillett in 1992 and the first in the one-meter since Mary Pfeiffer in 1998. Lemke, a sophomore from Berlin, Germany, was the 2017 MAC Freshman Diver of the Year and placed fourth in both diving events at the 2017 MAC Championships.

BGSU swimmers also contributed several successful moments during the second day of the 2018 MAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. Athletes competed in the 50 and 500 yard freestyle events, as well as the 200 yard individual medley and the 200 yard freestyle relay. Two Falcons competed in the 200 IM championship final, along with one each in the consolation finals of both freestyle races.
Freshman Jordan Andrusak, owner of the school record in the 200 IM, scored 14 points and placed fifth (2:01.56). Emily Verbrugge added a personal record 2:02.49 in the preliminaries before earning 11 points and eighth place in the final. Andrusak later returned to the pool and swam anchor for the 200 freestyle relay team, which finished in 1:33.19. That time placed seventh but was also the ninth-fastest in BGSU history.
In the individual freestyle events, Natalie Criswell secured a point for an eighth place finish (16th overall) in the consolation final of the 500 yard freestyle. Maria Galic rallied for seventh place in the 50 yard freestyle consolation and scored two points. Galic's 23.42 in the preliminaries was a new personal record.
The third day of the MAC Championships will once again include two sessions. The daytime events (10:30 a.m.) feature preliminary heats in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, and three-meter diving. The evening session (6:30 p.m.) includes the championship and consolation heats in the individual swimming events, the consolation final in the three-meter diving, and the 400 medley relay championship.
HEAD COACH MATT ENSE SAYS…
"Tonight was a very special night for our program. Talisa Lemke earned the MAC title in the 1 meter diving event. This was our first 1 meter champion since Hall of Famer Mary Pfeiffer won in 1988. Coach Grant has been doing great things with the divers this season, and they are peaking at the right time. The team has a lot of momentum heading into the third day of the meet. We typically get stronger as the meet goes on, so we are looking forward to getting more second swims and dives tomorrow."
