MEET RESULTS (.pdf)
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – A school record and Central Michigan's undefeated conference slate both fell on Sunday (Feb. 25), as the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team finished second in a tri-meet against the Chippewas and Ohio State University. Senior Laura Mitchell secured the best balance beam score in BGSU history, while Jovannah East tallied a trio of 9.9s. Their efforts helped the Falcons to a 195.400, the team's second-best total of 2018. That was good enough to beat CMU's 195.375 and hand the Chippewas' their first Mid-American Conference loss of the season. Ohio State won the meet with a 196.125. BGSU improved to 4-10 overall and 2-2 in the MAC, while CMU dropped to 6-2 (4-1 MAC).
The highlight of the meet was an amazing display of artistry on the beam that overcame a counted fall. After a pair of low scores started the rotation, the team needed four straight positive routines, and that's exactly what they received. Lexi Augustine started with a personal-record 9.875, and Laura Mitchell followed. Mitchell, who was already shared the school record (9.925), dazzled the judges and received a 9.950 to establish a new BGSU standard. As the sole record holder, she becomes the first Falcon to surpass one of Marny Oestreng's school records. Prior to today, the former NCAA champion owned BGSU's best-ever score in every event. Jovannah East and India McPeak ended the rotation with matching 9.900s, giving BGSU a 48.750 on the beam.
East added to the run of high scores with 9.900s on the vault and the floor. That gave the Falcons their most 9.9s in a single meet since four against Northern Illinois in 2016; the team set the existing school record for cumulative score on that day. Bowling Green totaled 12 scores of 9.8 or higher and another five that scored between 9.7 and 9.8. The glut of superior marks was essential to the push to increase BGSU's Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). As of the first official rankings, the Falcons' RQS will be 195.005.

HEAD COACH KERRIE TURNER SAYS...
- "I was really happy with how we started out on vault. We struggled a little on vault on Friday night, and the landings were much, much better today. I also thought that the team came out today very unified and focused, ready to put together a good meet. On the bars, we stumbled a bit at the beginning but the team came back so strong, and that was the theme of today's meet. On beam after a rough start, they crushed some really beautiful beam routines, then went to the floor and did their job. Obviously a great result, to get that win against Central Michigan."
