February 08, 2018 | Volleyball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – After leading the Falcons to its first Mid-American Conference regular season title since 1992, Bowling Green volleyball head coach Danijela Tomic has signed a three-year contract extension through the 2020 season.
"We are excited to reward Coach Tomic with this contract extension," Bowling Green Director of Athletics Bob Moosbrugger said. "We believe that we have the opportunity at BGSU to use the momentum of the 2017 volleyball season to build a consistent championship-level program. In addition to a 2017 MAC Championship on the court, our volleyball student-athletes are excelling in the classroom. Under the leadership of Coach Tomic, we are well positioned for continued success on the court, in the classroom and in life. We look forward to supporting her, the assistant coaches and especially the student-athletes in these efforts."
In her sixth season at the helm of the program, Tomic was named MAC Coach of the Year for the first time after the Falcons earned a 13-3 record in league play and a 17-10 mark overall. Tomic has built an overall record of 88-90 over the last six seasons in addition to a 53-43 MAC record in her time at Bowling Green.
"I would like to thank Interim President Rodney Rogers, Director of Athletics Bob Moosbrugger, and Senior Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator Lauren Ashman for their belief in the direction of Falcon volleyball. Our staff and student-athletes have worked extremely hard to build a championship program on the court while accomplishing outstanding results in the classroom and making a positive impact on the Bowling Green community. Our successes could not have been possible without the help of our whole Athletics administration and so many great supporters and donors. We will continue to build on all those successes, and make our great university and wonderful community proud."
In her first year with the Bowling Green program, Tomic led the Falcons to the 2012 MAC Tournament title and the program's first ever NCAA Tournament win. In the last two seasons, Tomic has also developed a Bowling Green program that has earned every MAC individual postseason award including 2017 MAC Player of the Year (Kallie Seimet), 2016 MAC Freshman of the Year (Isabelle Marciniak), 2016 MAC Setter of the Year (Isabelle Marciniak), and back-to-back MAC Defensive Players of the Year (2016 – Madeline Garda, 2017 – Kallie Seimet).
"I believe the future is exciting for BGSU Volleyball," Coach Tomic said. "I am very appreciative of the opportunity to continue my coaching career at BGSU working with our exceptional student-athletes, and hard-working and loyal staff."
Prior to her arrival at Bowling Green, Tomic was a three-time Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year (2006, 2008, 2009) at Florida International. In seven years as head coach at FIU, she had a record of 158-61.
