Falcons Drop Series Finale To NIU On Senior Day

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team was defeated on Senior Day at Steller Field on Sunday (May 13) by Northern Illinois University. The Huskies scored the first seven runs of the game, eventually winning the contest by a score of 12-4.
The game marked the final conference home game in the careers of Tyler Anderson, Kody Brown, Zac Carey, Derek Drewes, Justin Mott, Wes Rickenberg, and Randy Righter. All seven Falcons showed up on the box score.
Zac Carey and Kody Brown were used as hitters, but were immediately lifted from the game after walking up to the plate. Carey even saw a pitch before exiting. The pair of pitchers otherwise would not have played on the day, and both received loud ovations as they walked back to the dugout.
Bowling Green got within three runs at 7-4 thanks to a one-run fourth and three-run fifth, but the Huskies went on to score the final five runs of the game to secure the win. BGSU concludes its home schedule on Tuesday (May 15) with a 3:05 p.m. first pitch against Wright State.

"The game did not go as we would have hoped, but these seven young men, along with our athletic trainer Kristyn Wilhelm, have meant a lot to our program, and it was great to get them all into the game in some form or fashion."

• Along with Zac Carey and Kody Brown, the rest of the senior class appeared in Sunday's game.
• Wes Rickenberg faced two batters in the eighth, while Tyler Anderson got the start, and struck out two over 2.0 innings.
• All three Falcon senior position players – Derek Drewes, Justin Mott and Randy Righter – each posted two hits on the afternoon.
• Derek Drewes went 2-for-5 with a two-run single in the fifth. Randy Righter also went 2-for-5 with a run scored and RBI. Justin Mott went 2-for-4 at the dish.
