Redshirt senior Aliyah Gustafson will compete in the first of her three events this week, alongside teammate Elizabeth Iversen, also a senior, in the shot put at 5:30 pm (time has been updated to reflect a change in the schedule due to weather concerns). Gustafson is the No. 3 seed in the event and the top 12 competitors will advance to the national championships. Iversen is seeded No. 32. For Gustafson, she will look to qualify for her second outdoor national championship in the event and third overall (including competing at the 2018 NCAA Division I Indoor National Championships). Iversen is making her first appearance at a regional meet.
Redshirt junior Rachel Walny will then look to make back-to-back appearances at the national championships in the 10,000. As the No. 7 seed, Walny will be a favorite to advance in the race, which begins at 9:40 pm. Just like the shot put, the top 12 competitors will advance to the field of 24 at the outdoor national championships in June.
Following Thursday night's competition, Gustafson and Iversen will compete in the discus Friday afternoon and then Gustafson will cap the week with an appearance in the hammer throw Saturday morning.
Bowling Green has produced an NCAA national championship qualifier in a school-record five consecutive years. However, the program has not seen at least two student-athletes advance to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships since 1998.
