Volleyball Earns 18th Consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the 18th consecutive year, the Bowling Green State University volleyball team has been recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for academic excellence with the AVCA Team Academic Award.
The 2017-18 recognition marks the 19th time in the 24-year history of the award that the Falcons have been honored for academic excellence by the AVCA. The AVCA awards volleyball programs across the country that maintain a team GPA of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale, while the 2018 award was given to an all-time record of 973 teams, including 163 NCAA Division I women's teams.
The BGSU volleyball team earned a 3.625 GPA for the 2017-18 academic year. A total of 14 of the team's 15 student-athletes earned a 3.0 grade point average or higher over the fall semester, while 12 student-athletes posted a 3.0 GPA or above in the spring of 2018. Five Falcons also recorded a perfect 4.0 in the 2017-18 school year, including Paulina Iacobelli, Victoria Iacobelli, Nicole Slimko, Jessi Holly, and Kerstie Shaw.
Bowling Green is one of the most tenured organizations in terms of the longest active streaks among all NCAA Division I volleyball programs. Only Indiana State University has been honored annually for a longer period, having received the award for 20 consecutive seasons. The AVCA instituted the award for the 1992-93 season.
