Falcons Sweep Purdue Fort Wayne In Exhibition Play

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball program unofficially opened its 2018 season on Saturday (Aug. 18) by defeating Purdue Fort Wayne in straight sets (25-20; 25-16; 25-23). A total of 16 Falcons saw action in the victory.

"I didn't think the game was going to be perfect. I didn't think we were going to play our best volleyball at the beginning of the season, but it's a good start. Our defense is our strength, and I think we are keeping that as our strength this year."
A NUMBER OF FALCONS MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS
• Isabel Kovacic, over 24 attack attempts, had 10 kills and hit .417. She did not commit a single attack error.
• Kallie Seimet recorded 23 digs (7.66 per set), and also had six assists.
• Isabelle Marciniak notched a double-double, as she finished the match with 24 assists and 13 digs.
• Katie Kidwell hit .294 (6-1-17), and led the way for the Falcons with four blocks.
• Madeline Brandewie added four kills, three blocks, one assist and one dig.
• Celena Kanagin contributed with five kills, two blocks and two digs.
• Macie Linne and Jacqueline Askin each added three kills apiece.
• Taylor Haberland, Kerstie Shaw, Ryann Cox and Paulina Iacobelli also saw action for the Orange and Brown.
ALL FOUR FRESHMEN SEE PLAYING TIME
• Nikolija Katanic, Hanna Laube, Katelyn Meyer, and Julia Walz all saw time on the court, with Meyer earning a start.
• Meyer had eight kills, while also adding seven digs, three blocks and one ace.
• Katanic registered 2 kills and hit .333, while Laube racked up one kill (1.000%), eight assists and two digs. Walz posted two digs.

• Bowling Green heads to West Lafayette, Indiana next weekend to open the 2018 season at the Purdue Mortar Board Premier tournament.
• The Falcons will open the season by playing Tulsa (12 p.m.) and Purdue (7:30 p.m.) on Friday, Aug. 24.
• Bowling Green will conclude the event with a noon match versus Wofford on Saturday, Aug. 25.
