Kallie Seimet Named MAC East Defensive Player Of The Week
September 17, 2018 | Volleyball
Senior Kallie Seimet was named MAC East Defensive Player of the Week after a strong performance in the BGSU Invitational Tournament. The Falcons placed first in their home tournament by defeating Marshall in a close duel, three sets to one, and sweeping both IUPUI and Nicholls State.Â
Thursday's game against Marshall was a tough challenge for Bowling Green. Marshall's pin hitter, Ciara Debell, was a threat to the Falcons as she went on to accumulate 25 kills throughout the match, but it was the libero in the number six jersey that stepped up to hold the Herd's offense at bay. Seimet concluded the match with 35 digs, making up more than a third of the Falcons' 96 total digs. Seimet went deep for the ball 27 times against IUPUI and 14 times against Nicholls State, bringing her to a total of 76 digs throughout the weekend. She was named MVP of the BGSU Invitational as a result of her heroic efforts for the Falcons.
Semiet's performance moves Bowling Green to fourth in the digs per set category of the NCAA volleyball rankings with an average of 18.5. As an individual, Seimet moves to second in the same category averaging 6.24 digs per set. The Oregon, Ohio native moved down a spot to fourth in total digs with 287, but with two games this weekend against Buffalo (Sept. 21) and Akron (Sept. 22) in MAC play, there is a chance for Seimet to get back in the top three.Â
