January 22, 2019 | Women's Track and Field
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University redshirt senior Aliyah Gustafson has been named the Mid-American Conference Field Athlete of the Week, following a strong performance that included two event victories against Toledo Friday night.
In the shot put, Gustafson posted the seventh-best mark in the NCAA this year with a throw of 56-feet-2 (17.12m). That distance is the second-best in program history behind only her own school record. She now holds all of the top five performances in BGSU history in the event. Gustafson ranks first in the MAC in the shot put.
In the weight throw, Gustafson also dominated with a throw of 64-7.25 (19.69m). That distance also places her first in the MAC in 2019 and among the top 35 nationally.
A three-time All-American in the shot put, Gustafson earned MAC Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this year. It is the fifth time in her career in which she has earned the honor, three times during the indoor season.
BGSU track & field will be back in action this weekend for split squad competition. The Falcons will compete at the Findlay Alumni Classic Friday and Saturday, as well as Eastern Michigan's Can-Am Classic Saturday.
