Falcons Conclude Fall Season In Dayton

Dayton, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's golf team finished play at the Dayton Flyer Invitational today (Oct. 15) and finished in sixth place. The event, which was hosted by the University of Dayton, was the final event of the fall season for the Falcons.

Rodrigue Vie led the Falcons for the fourth time in as many tournaments, finishing at T-17th with a score of 222 after shooting a 74 in all three days of the tournament. Vie had 36 pars to lead the Falcons.Â

Nick Hofland finished at T-21st with a score of 223 and had the best individual score of any Falcon today shooting an even 72.

Tom North came in at T-31st with a total score of 227. North was T-2nd in Par 4 scoring average at 4.09.Â
Ian Mackenzie-Olson finished T-46th shooting a total of 231.Â

Ward Kyle tied with Mackenzie-Olson, finishing T-46th with a final score of 231.Â

Freshman Dylan Fitchet, competing as an individual, finished at T-57th with a score 234. Curtis Hughes also played as an individual, finishing at 73rd with a score of 243. Â

BG was tied for first place for the tournament with 161 pars.Â

NOTES ON THE FALL SEASON
BG finished in fourth place in their opening tournament, the Raising Canes Invitational, hosted by Eastern Kentucky University. The Falcons then finished as co-runner ups at the Firestone Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron. Bowling Green was just one stroke back from finishing as co-champions. The Falcons placed three inside the top ten on the individual leaderboard -- Nick Hofland, Rodrigue Vie and Tom North.Â

The Orange and Brown then followed up that finish with the first program win since 2017 at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational. The Falcons shot a team score of 837 (-15) and were just five strokes shy of tying the program record for a 54-hole tournament. There were three Falcons in the top five in Vie, North and Ward Kyle. Rodrigue Vie finished first among 78 golfers in the individual ranks, which marks the first individual win for BGSU men's golf since 2015. Vie's score was just three strokes behind the program record at 202, which was set by Jose Narro in 2015.

Rodrigue Vie concluded a fantastic fall season for BG. The junior finished inside the top six in three of the four tournaments on the slate, including the individual tournament win. Vie won MAC Golfer of the Week and Jet's Athlete of the Week for his efforts.Â

Tom North also had a standout fall with three top ten finishes and two within the top five. North finished T-4th at the Raising Canes Invitational, which earned him Jet's Athlete of the Week honors. After playing in just one tournament a season ago, Ward Kyle appeared in all four tournaments for BG. He posted a fifth-place individual finish at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational.Â

Another transfer, Ian Mackenzie-Olson, had his best finish of the year at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational, finishing T-19th.

Mackenzie-Olson competed in all four tournaments during the fall. True freshman Dylan Fitchet had his best finish of the fall season in his first-collegiate tournament, finishing T-20th at the Raising Canes Invitational. Â

Curtis Hughes had his best finish of the season at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational, finishing T-40th.Â
In three of the four tournaments during the fall, BG had at least two players finish inside the top ten. As a team, the Falcons were in the top six in all tournaments and were in the top four in three.

Since taking over as head coach, John Powers has had five finishes during the fall season inside of fourth place. The team win at the Tom Tontimonia is the best finish under Powers since he took over the job.Â
