UP NEXT FOR THE FALCONS...
• The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team, after opening the season with an emphatic win, continues a three-game homestand on Saturday (Nov. 9). Head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons face Morehead State University, with tipoff set for 2:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
• Then, the Brown and Orange will be idle for over a week, before meeting Notre Dame College at the Stroh on Monday, Nov. 18. The Falcons and the Falcons will meet in a 5:30 p.m. start.
Â
THE STARTING FIVE (FIVE FASCINATING FALCON FACTS)
• The Falcons rallied from an early 10-point deficit to defeat Cleveland State, 89-62, on Wednesday night (Nov. 6) at the Stroh. In the win, three Falcons scored 20 or more points, another flirted with a triple-double, and still another fell just one steal short of matching the school record.
• Junior Madisen Parker exploded for a career-high 25 points vs the Vikings, going 7-of-11 from three-point range on the night. Parker shattered her previous career bests of 16 points and four successful triples.
• In her first game since the 2017-18 season, Caterrion Thompson scored 20 points, setting career standards with nine field goals made in 17 attempts. The fourth-year Falcon missed all of last season due to injury.
• Junior Angela Perry also had 20 points, going 10-for-12 from the floor. The junior made her first eight shots of the night, and also had seven rebounds and two steals in the victory. For Perry, it was her fourth career game with 20 or more points.
• Sophomore Kadie Hempfling filled the stat sheet, scoring six points, pulling down 13 rebounds and dishing out a career-high 10 assists. Hempfling became the first Falcon with a double-digit assist total in nearly nine years (Tracy Pontius vs. Cal State Fullerton; Dec. 4, 2010).
OFF THE BENCH (A SPECIAL SIXTH FASCINATING FACT)
• In her first game as a Falcon, junior Mari Hill came close to matching a school record. Hill had nine steals in the win over Cleveland State. She had seven steals in the first half alone.
BGSU RECORD BOOK – STEALS, GAME
10Â Lindsay Austin vs. Miami (Feb. 3, 2004)
9 Lindsay Austin vs. Ball State (Feb. 29, 2004)
9 Melissa Chase vs. Northern Illinois (Nov. 28, 1980)
9 Mari Hill vs. Cleveland State (Nov. 6, 2019)
FALCON FIRSTS
• Four first-year Falcons made their respective BGSU debuts in the Cleveland State game, and three – junior Mari Hill and freshmen Elissa Brett and Kaillie Hall – scored their first collegiate points vs. the Vikings.
• In addition to scoring two points, Hill had five rebounds, four assists and the aforementioned nine steals. Brett had two points as well, and pulled down four rebounds.
• On her very first possession as a Falcon, Hall stole the ball from a CSU player at midcourt and converted an and-one layup. She wound up with six points, a rebound and a steal.
• Freshman Olivia Trice entered the game in the fourth quarter and dished out two assists in under two minutes.
• A few additional Falcon firsts were achieved on Wednesday night. The CSU game marked the first time BGSU made as many as 38 field goals in nearly 15 years, since the Brown and Orange knocked down 44 shots in a 115-84 win over the team then known as IPFW on Nov. 19, 2004.
• Three BGSU players scored 20 or more points on Wednesday night, the first time that had happened in close to 11 years. Lauren Prochaska had 26 points and Niki McCoy and Tracy Pontius 20 apiece as BG took down Dayton, 77-68, on the road on Dec. 29, 2008.
• The last time three BGSU players each made nine or more field goals in a game? No one knows! Well, someone probably knows. But, it hasn't happened in at least a quarter of a century. A scan of boxscores back to the 1993-94 season turned up no games in which three Falcons made nine shots each. On Wednesday, Angela Perry hit 10 shots, while both Madisen Parker and Caterrion Thompson made nine.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE EAGLES
• Morehead State opens the 2019-20 campaign against the Falcons on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles were picked to finish seventh in the 12-team Ohio Valley Conference in the league's preseason poll. Last year, MSU went 24-11 overall and 13-5 in the OVC, advancing to the WNIT's escond round. Head coach Greg Todd's club defeated Hillsdale, 77-68, in an exhibition game.Â
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Morehead State, 4-2, in the all-time series, but the teams have not met in close to 16 years. The Falcons and Eagles faced off four times between 1979 and 1989. Then, the schools were paired up in tournaments at Montana State in 1999 and Eastern Kentucky four years later. BGSU has won the last four matchups, including a 65-51 decision in December of 2003 at EKU's tourney. The  BGSU is 1-1 in home games, 1-1 on the road and 2-0 at neutral sites vs. the Eagles over the years.
DOWN THE ROAD
• The Morehead State game is the second of three consecutive contests at the Stroh to open the season. The Falcons will be back at Bill Frack Court on Monday, Nov. 18, meeting Notre Dame College in a 5:30 p.m. start.
• Following the Notre Dame clash, BGSU will play eight-straight games away from home, beginning with a contest at Valparaiso on Sunday, Nov. 24.
