Box Score
RICHMOND, Va. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team was defeated by the University of Richmond on Monday (Feb. 25) afternoon by a score of 8-6. The ballgame was played at Richmond's Pitt Field in Richmond, Virginia.
Bowling Green falls to 1-5 on the young season with the loss. Richmond, which has already picked up a ranked win on the season, is 6-0 in 2019.
Richmond plated three runs in the first, and two more in the second to take a 5-0 lead. Ryan Johnston delivered a bases-clearing double in the fourth, scoring three runs to pull the Falcons within a pair – but a three-run home run in the sixth inched Richmond's lead back to five runs at 8-3.
The Falcons did not go quietly, however, as a Mike Malewitz RBI single was followed by a two-run home run to center field by Cam Daugherty. The home run for Daugherty marked the fourth of his career. BGSU went on to bring the tying run to the plate, but the Spiders escaped with the win.
On the mound, Griffin Parrill continued his strong season, firing 2.0 scoreless innings. Parrill is yet to allow a run this season over 5.0 innings of work.
COACH SCHMITZ QUOTE
"I like the fight in this team. It would have been easy to hang our heads after falling behind early, but we never gave up. With that being said, we can't continue to play from behind. We'll need to get off to better starts going forward."
UP NEXT
Bowling Green will be in Nashville next weekend for a three-game series at Belmont (March 1-3).
