Falcons Swept In Doubleheader At Cincinnati Despite Strong Pitching Efforts

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team lost a pair of down-to-the-wire ballgames on Sunday (March 10) afternoon. The University of Cincinnati Bearcats won both games of the doubleheader by a score of 4-3. The twin bill was played at UC's Marge Schott Stadium.

The Falcons held late leads in both contests. BGSU was two outs away from victory with no UC runners on base in the opener. The Bearcats rallied to tie the game in the ninth before recording a walk-off win in the 10th.

In the second game, the Falcons held a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh. UC went on to hit a two-run home run in the seventh, and won the game with a two-out hit in the eighth.

Bowling Green did not commit an error on the day, while Cincinnati committed one error in both games. The Falcons also out-hit the Bearcats in both games and combined to out-hit the hosts on the day by an 18-12 margin.

Joe McGuinness posted both of BGSU's RBI in the opener, as he drove in runs with a pair of singles. In the second game, Adam Furnas scored a run on a ground out, while Brad Croy had three hits and two RBI. Jake Wilson had three hits in the night cap, as well. To go along with McGuinness' effort in the first game, Neil Lambert and Riley Minorik added three hits and two hits, respectively.

Sophomore Andrew Abrahamowicz and freshman Tyler Hays shined on the mound for Bowling Green. Abrahamowicz allowed just two hits and one run over 6.0 innings. He struck out six and walked three. Hays also allowed just one run across 6.0 innings. The freshman yielded just one hit, and fanned eight while walking two.

Abrahamowicz has posted a 1.62 ERA in 16.2 innings of work. He's struck out 19 batters, and has limited opponents to a .151 batting average. Opponents are hitting .157 off of Hays, who has a team-high 28 strikeouts in 20.1 innings.
