BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team completed its sweep of the University of Toledo on Sunday (March 24) afternoon with a walk-off victory. Freshman Mike Malewitz delivered the game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Falcons a 6-5 win.
Bowling Green entered the eighth inning down by a score of 5-2. With the bases loaded and one out, senior Joe McGuinness delivered the biggest hit of his BGSU career – a three-RBI double that cleared the bases and tied the score at 5-5.
Junior Jake Wilson began the bottom of the ninth with a leadoff triple, setting the stage for Malewitz. The freshman took two called balls to start his at-bat, and then promptly poked a single into center field that sent the Falcons into a frenzy.
Redshirt-junior Chase Antle earned the win for Bowling Green, as he allowed just two hits and one run over the final 4.0 innings of the ballgame. Antle struck out four. Redshirt-freshman Will MacLean picked up a no-decision. He was solid over 5.0 innings on the mound. MacLean allowed four runs – two of which were unearned – while striking out one and not issuing a walk.

A HISTORIC WEEKEND FOR THE FALCONS
• Bowling Green is 3-0 in Mid-American Conference play for the first time since 2008.
• The Falcons' three-game sweep is the program's first MAC sweep since taking all three games from Buffalo at Steller Field in May of 2015.
• The three-game sweep marks Bowling Green's first over Toledo since 2010.
COACH SCHMITZ QUOTE
"What a great weekend and start to conference play for the Falcons. I am so proud of this team for its fight and determination. We were down by three runs in the last two games of the series, and we just found a way. Sweeps are always special, and this one is even more meaningful given the history of the great Battle of I-75 rivalry."
BATTLE OF I-75 DOMINATION
• BGSU now leads the all-time series with Toledo by a 129-93 margin.
• Bowling Green is 58-35 against Toledo since head coach Danny Schmitz's first season at BGSU in 1991.
• Since 2005, Bowling Green has lost just three season series to Toledo, racking up a record of 30-14 over that time frame.
• Under Schmitz, the Falcons have took the season series from Toledo a total of 17 times. BGSU has lost its season series with Toledo just six times under Schmitz, while recording a season sweep of the Rockets 10 times during the Schmitz Era.
UP NEXT
• BGSU begins next week with a home game versus Youngstown State on Tuesday, March 26. First pitch is set for 3:05 p.m. The Falcons will then travel to Athens for a three-game MAC series at Ohio (March 29-31).
