Falcons And Flyers To Face-off Friday
March 06, 2019 | Women's Tennis
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team will return to home to the Perrysburg Tennis Center on Friday, March 8 to face the Dayton Flyers. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m and serve as the Falcons final non-conference match of the season. BGSU will enter play with a steady 5-5 record, while UD holds a 3-7 record. The Falcons and Flyers last met during the 2016-17 season when the Orange and Brown traveled to Dayton. The match concluded 4-3, favoring Bowling Green.
Perfectly Balanced
Entering play on Friday (March 8) the Falcons will hold a 5-5 record. The season thus far has had its ups and downs, but has ultimately balanced out. On the season, the Falcons hold two sweeps, coming against Bellarmine University and Indiana Tech, but have also fallen victim to a sweep twice as well (Notre Dame and Michigan State). However, Bowling Green has established a shield around their home court, having gone 3-1 when playing at Perrysburg Tennis Center.
Following the Fliers
Dayton currently stands with a 3-7 record on the season, including an 0-6 record on the road. Of their seven losses, five have come in the form of a sweep, including losses to Mid-American Conference members Ball State and Western Michigan. However, Dayton is coming off of a win in their last match, topping Saint Joseph's by a score of 4-0. Last season, UD ended with a 14-9 record, but saw three seniors graduate from the program.
Seeing Doubles
This season, the Falcons have had two duos named to MAC Doubles Team of the Week. On Feb. 13, Ayumi Sasaki and Marta Bettinelli were recognized following doubles victories over Saint Louis (6-3) and Cleveland State (8-6). Bowling Green followed it up by having Paula Comella and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash named on Feb. 27. Comella and Tavpash had a 2-0 weekend, including a win over Indianapolis' duo of Nikol Alexeeva and Anna Novikova, the No. 4 ranked doubles team in Division II.
