SETTING THE SCENE
• The Bowling Green State University softball team returns home for a three-game weekend series vs. the University at Buffalo. Head coach Sarah Willis and the Falcons host the Bulls in a Friday (April 12) single game, beginning at 3:00 p.m., followed by a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday (April 13) at Meserve Field.
• Admission is free to all home BGSU softball action.
GO4THEGOAL
• On Friday, the Falcons will be Lacing Up 4 Pediatric Cancer in support of the Go4theGoal Foundation to help kids battling cancer.
• Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer began in the fall of 2011. Since then, professional, college and youth teams have participated in raising funds and awareness for the #1 disease killer of children. To date, over a half million athletes have supported the cause -- $4 from every $5 pair of laces and 100% of all donations directly benefit kids and families in the state where the funds are raised.
• Go4theGoal works to improve the lives of children battling cancer by providing financial assistance, granting special wishes, developing unique hospital programs, and funding innovative research. Learn more about Go4theGoal and how you can help to make a difference by visiting Go4theGoal.org.
HEROES DAY AND MORE
• Saturday is Heroes Day at Meserve, with a number of promotions and events taking place. Prior to Saturday's first game, a giant 50' x 90' flag will be unveiled in the outfield prior to the National Anthem. The flag, which was first displayed at the BGSU women's basketball game vs. Kent State on March 2, was purchased by the Student Veterans Organization (SVO). The organization raised over $10,000 through the Falcon Funded campaign to purchase the flag, which will be used at multiple BGSU venues to support and honor those who serve our country.

• The flag will be held by BGSU's student-athletes who have maintained a grade-point average of 3.00 or higher.
• Cadet Emilee Utz and Kathleen Wolf will be throwing out ceremonial first pitches prior to Saturday's game.
• Cadet Utz will be graduating from BGSU and commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in May. Following graduation, she will be assigned to Kadena Air Force Base in Japan as an Aircraft Munitions Maintenance officer.
• Wolf, originally from Tiffin, Ohio, retired from the United States Army as Sergeant. She deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as a door gunner in a Blackhawk helicopter, and finished her career as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Specialist in April of 2018. Upon her retirement, she returned to Northwest Ohio and now resides in Fostoria. She is majoring in Microbiology with an anticipated graduation of May 2021, and currently has a perfect 4.000 GPA at BGSU.
• Following Saturday's second game, kids in attendance will have the opportunity to run the bases.
THE 2019 FALCONS: A QUICK OVERVIEW
• The Falcons are 15-21 overall and 3-8 in the MAC heading into Friday's opener with UB. BG won a series at Ball State last weekend, taking two of three games in Muncie against the preseason MAC favorites, but the Brown and Orange dropped a 2-0 decision at Miami on Wednesday (April 10).
• BGSU is 3-3 at home, 8-9 on the road and 4-9 at neutral sites to date. The Falcons are batting .271 to the opponents' .256.
• Three Falcon starters are hitting at least .325, with four more regulars batting over .260. Junior Madi McCoy leads the way with a .386 average, and she paces the club with seven home runs, 23 RBI and a .714 slugging percentage.
• Sophomore Nikki Sorgi and junior Taylor Blevins and are hitting .340 and .314, respectively.  Sorgi is tied for the team lead with 11 extra-base hits.
• Senior Alex Sorgi is hitting .286, while junior Evelyn Loyola is batting .268 and senior Kellie Natham .266. Sophomores Sarah Gonzalez and Payton Hamm both are hitting .253. Alex Sorgi has reached base in 13-straight games, while Loyola saw a 13-game reached-base streak come to an end in the MU matchup on Wednesday.Gonzalez has 11 extra-base knocks to tie Nikki Sorgi for the BG lead.
• Alex Sorgi has 34 hits to pace the Falcons, and the senior also has BG-best totals of, 20 walks, 25 runs and 18 stolen bases. Natham is second on the club with five dingers, and is one of five Falcons with nine or more extra-base hits.
• In the circle, seniors Meredith Miller and Brooke Parker have combined to start 35 of BG's 36 games. Miller has made 20 starts, and is 11-10 with a 3.13 earned-run average. She has nine complete games, one shutout and 123 strikeouts in 125 1/3 innings, and has allowed opponents to hit just .229 against her.
• Parker is 4-9 with an ERA of 3.89 and one save. She has seven complete games, along with an opponent batting average of .278, and has struck out 65 hitters.
• A total of 20 different Falcons have made at least one start this season. Only Gonzalez and Alex Sorgi have started all 36 games.Â
SETTING THE TABLE
• BGSU's leadoff hitter has reached base 41.3 percent of the time this season (100 times in 242 opportunities). The leadoff batter has gotten on base at least three times in 10 of the last 12 games, and in 22 of this season's 36 contests.
SISTER ACT
• Senior Alex Sorgi and her sister, sophomore Nikki Sorgi, have made a habit of getting on base this season. Nikki singled in the second inning of the Miami game on Wednesday. The hit was her 33rd of the season, tying Alex for the team lead. One inning later, Alex moved back in front with a base hit, her 34th of the spring. Nikki has a team-leading 10 multiple-hit games in 2019, while Alex has nine.
A FEW MORE FALCON NOTES
• Senior Meredith Miller was dominant in her two appearances vs. BSU, with a complete-game two-hitter on Friday (April 5) and five innings of one-hit shutout relief on Saturday (April 6). Miller went 2-0 with an ERA of just 0.58 and a miniscule opponent batting average of .079 against the Cardinals.
• The Falcons' loss at Miami on Wednesday marked just the fifth time BG has been shut out in 36 games this season, and the first time since Feb. 9.
• Prior to Wednesday, BGSU had scored at least one run in 22 consecutive games, the program's longest such streak in six years.
• Junior Kendyl Wheeler made just her fourth start of the season, and her first since Feb. 23, on Wednesday. Wheeler, who started a total of 65 games over her first two years as a Falcon, has missed much of this season due to injury.
RECORD WATCH
• Senior Alex Sorgi has moved into second place in BGSU history in stolen bases, and will likely end her career in that spot. Sorgi now has 61 career thefts, having recently moved past Jenny Ranz (57 steals from 1994-97) on that list. BG Hall-of-Famer Amy Lienhardt (121 steals from 1985-88) has a firm grip on the school record.
• Sorgi is ranked seventh in BGSU history with 108 runs scored, and is tied for ninth on the school list with 61 walks. The senior is 15th in BG annals with a .305 career batting average.

• Seniors Kali Holcomb (seven, T-fourth) and Kellie Natham (five, T-eighth) are ranked in the top-10 on the BG career chart for sacrifice flies.
• Senior pitchers Meredith Miller and Brooke Parker are ranked on numerous BG lists as well. Miller is third in school history in strikeouts per seven innings (6.07), and has moved into sixth place in total strikeouts (388). She is eighth in wins, games started and innings pitched, and ranks ninth in complete games.
• Parker is 11th in appearances, and she is tied for sixth in career saves. Parker is now 12th in strikeouts, 13th in K's per seven innings and tied for 13th in games started.
• Fellow senior Kiley Sosby is ranked 16th in career strikeouts.
THE BULLS
• Buffalo is 7-23-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the conference. The Bulls were idle over the weekend after splitting a road DH with UA last Tuesday. UB won the latter game by a 16-6 final.
• Then, on Wednesday, UB posted a walk-off, 6-5 win over the Zips on an Alicia Peters home run.
• After going 1-18 to begin the season, the Bulls are 6-5-1 over the last 12 games.
• Anna Aguon is hitting a team-leading .418, and also paces the Bulls with 11 doubles, an on-base percentage of .477 and a .673 slugging pct.
• Ally Power is 3-12 in the circle, with an ERA of 6.06. Lace Smith is 4-10 with a 7.57 ERA this year. That duo has combined to start 30 of UB's 31 games in 2019.Â
• First-year head coach Mike Ruechel inherited 10 players from last season's team. The 2018 Bulls went 16-31 overall and 3-16 in MAC play.
THE SERIES
• BGSU leads Buffalo, 27-12, in the all-time series between the teams, and the Falcons captured a doubleheader in Western New York last season, winning by scores of 7-3 and 11-1. The third game in that series was cancelled due to inclement weather. Two years ago, in the teams' last meetings at Meserve, the Falcons swept a three-game series. BG is 12-7 at home, 13-5 on the road and 2-0 in neutral-site matchups with UB since the dawn of time.
DOWN THE ROAD...
• Following the Buffalo series, the Falcons will play five-straight games in Michigan. BG will head to the Motor City for a Tuesday (April 16) twinbill vs. Detroit Mercy, with game one beginning at 2:00 p.m.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will travel to Kalamazoo for a three-game weekend set vs. Western Michigan, including a single game on April 19 and a doubleheader the following day (April 20).
