April 19, 2019 | Women's Tennis
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team will host Western Michigan on Sunday, April 21 at 1 p.m. for their regular season finale. Also being the final home match, the Falcons will recognize their three seniors at the match. Location of the match will be dependent on the weather and could take place at either Perrysburg Tennis Center or Keefe Courts. Entering the match, BGSU holds a 9-10 record on the season, including a 2-4 standing within the Mid-American Conference.
Must-Win Weekend
The match against Western Michigan will be a must-win for Bowling Green. Serving as the final match of the regular season, the MAC Championship qualifiers will be determined by the end of the weekend. Currently, the Falcons are seventh in the conference with a shot at becoming the sixth and final seed. With a win, Bowling Green will also need Buffalo to defeat Toledo, pushing the Orange and Brown to the sixth seed and into the tournament. As of now, Toledo also holds a 2-4 MAC record, but their regular season record of 10-9 gives them the advantage in the standings.
Watching Western Michigan
Currently second in the MAC, Western Michigan has accumulated a 4-1 record in the conference while holding a 12-8 overall record. However, before facing BGSU, WMU will travel to Oxford, Ohio to play the Miami RedHawks, who are currently the MAC leader. Western's lone MAC loss came against Buffalo at home by a score of 5-2. The Falcons also concluded last season with the Broncos, traveling to Kalamazoo, Mich. and defeating WMU by a score of 4-3.
Buffalo v. Toledo
A determining match for Bowling Green's conference championship chances, the Falcons need the Rockets to lose to make the tournament. Last season, Buffalo topped Toledo by a score of 5-2. In regular season play, the Rockets haven't beat the Bulls since the 2014-15 season.

- In singles wins, Paula Comella could make a jump to tie Heidi Romer for No. 13 on the all-time singles wins list with 73.
- With two wins on the line this weekend, Comella can move up the all-time combined wins list as well. Currently with 149 wins over her career, Comella would take sole possession of No. 6 all-time with just one win against Western Michigan.
- Marharita-Sophia Tavpash could also move up the all-time singles wins list, which would tie her for No. 28 with Cameron Benjamin with 48 wins a piece.
- Tavpash can also make a leap in doubles wins. If she can capture win 59 of her career she would tie Andrea Meister and Jenna Nussbaum for No. 22 all-time.
