Butler Wins Hammer In Louisville As Falcons Flourish In Competition

Louisville, Ky. and Hillsdale, Mich. – Kaila Butler won the championship division of the hammer throw and the Falcons had numerous personal and season bests as the team competed at both Louisville's Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational and Hillsdale's GINA Relays. With just two weeks remaining until the Mid-American Conference Championships, the Falcons positioned themselves for success in multiple places.

FALCONS SOAR IN HAMMER AT LOUISVILLE
- Kaila Butler won the hammer throw in the championship division against a strong field, while Aliyah Gustafson posted a season-best to finish fifth.
- Three of the top 30 hammer throwers in the country competed in the competition as well as six of the top 100. Butler threw just shy of her personal best 212-feet-3 (64.70m) to win the competition.
- Gustafson posted a season-best distance of 197-0 (60.06m), also less than a foot from her personal best and finished fifth in the meet.
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES
- Freshman Ebonie Whitted set a new collegiate best in the shot put with a distance of 48-feet-2.75 (14.70m) to place second in the open division at Louisville. Whitted's distance was just shy of a MAC automatic qualifying bid.
- Brianna Richard set a new personal best in the long jump at Louisville with a distance of 17-10.75 (5.45m).
- Also in the long jump field, Ayanna Burrell had a wind-aided PR of 17-8.75 (5.40m).
- Redshirt senior All-American Rachel Walny debuted in the outdoor season by running the 5000 at Hillsdale. She placed seventh with a time of 17:03.70, among the top 10 in the MAC in her first race in more than two months.
