Falcons To Host Rockets Sunday In Battle Of I-75, Meserve Cup Match

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team will host the next chapter in the Battle of I-75 on Sunday, April 7 when they host the Rockets at Keefe Courts at 1 p.m. The match will also serve as the tennis team's edition of the Meserve Cup. The Falcons will enter the match holding an 8-9 record on the season, while standing with a 1-3 record in conference play. Sunday will be Bowling Green's first match of the spring schedule at Keefe Courts with two more home matches slated the rest of the season.
Rivalry Weekend
This year, the Battle of I-75 has been a close affair across the board. Entering the weekend, in head-to-head matchups this season, the Falcons are 7-7 against the Rockets. Over the last ten seasons, Bowling Green and Toledo have met 11 times on the tennis court with the series being rather even. In those 11 matches, BGSU has been victorious five times with Toledo winning six. In the most recent meeting between the Falcons and Rockets, UT topped BGSU 5-2. However, the Orange and Brown came away with a 4-3 win during the 2016-17 season.
Taking on Toledo
Currently, the Rockets are 10-6 on the season with a 2-1 standing within the MAC. Most recently, they topped Akron on Saturday, March 30, by a score of 4-3. Their other two conference matches came against Northern Illinois (W, 5-2) and Ball State (L, 7-0). Prior to facing the Falcons on Sunday, the Rockets will travel to Oxford to face Miami on Friday (April 5).
Welcoming We Are One Team
The tennis team will also be welcoming BGSU student group, We Are One Team (WA1T) for Tennis Sporting Day. WA1T will be bring other teams out to the match to meet the team and play tennis on the court following the match.

- Sitting with 71 singles wins, Paula Comella could move up the list with a win on Sunday. If she can capture win 72 of her career, she will move up to a tie for No. 14 all-time in singles wins.
- In addition, if Comella can snag a win in both singles and doubles, she can move up the combined list as well. Currently at No. 9 with 147 wins, she is just two wins away from tying for No. 6 all-time.
- Polina Radeva can make a move as well in all-time singles wins. A win on Sunday would be No. 60 of her career, which would put her in a tie for No. 22 all-time.
- Like Comella, Radeva can also move up in combined wins. If she can capture two wins on Sunday, Radeva would climb to a tie for No. 26 all-time with 106 combined wins.
- Currently with 46 singles wins, Marharita-Sophia Tavpash could move up with a win on Sunday as well. A singles win would move her into a three-way tie for No. 29 all-time with Jenna Nussbaum and Katie Brozovich with 47 career singles wins.
- Tavpash has the opportunity to move up on doubles wins as well. Now at 57, a doubles win would tie her No. 24 all-time.
