BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Following the second of back-to-back MAC Regular Season Championships, the Bowling Green State University volleyball program has announced its schedule for upcoming 2019 season as it seeks to become the first back-to-back-to-back MAC Champions in volleyball program history. As of now, the schedule features a total of 29 matches, including 12 home matches at the Stroh Center, concluding with Bowling Green serving as the host of the 2019 MAC Volleyball Championship from Nov. 21-24.
On the home slate for the Falcons are eight conference matches and four non-conference, three of which will be part of the BGSU Invitational on Sept. 6 and 7. The full schedule will see a breakdown of 16 Mid-American Conference matches and 13 non-conference matches, including facing off with two Power Five schools.
The Falcons' season will see its first serve on August 24 at home against Gannon in an exhibition before traveling to compete in the Golden Dome Invitational on August 30 and 31, where the Orange and Brown will see their first Power Five action. The third and final game of the invitational for BGSU will be against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, who were 16-12 during the 2018 season.
Bowling Green will return to the Stroh for the BGSU Invitational, taking place on Sept. 6 and 7, featuring Charlotte, Butler and Cleveland State. During last year's invitational, the Falcons won all three of their matches, topping Marshall (3-1), IUPUI (3-0) and Nicholls State (3-0).
After a lone game against Oakland on Sept. 10, the Orange and Brown will take on their second Power Five opponent, Ohio State, at the conclusion of the WKU Holiday Inn-University Plaza Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 14. This will be the first time since 2009 that the Falcons with face the Buckeyes with the last meeting happening on Sept. 18 in Columbus with OSU winning 3-0.
The final invitational for the Falcons will be the Queen City Classic against Xavier and Cincinnati on Sept. 20 and 21 respectively. These will serve as the final non-conference matches for BGSU.
At home, the Falcons will first see Akron and Buffalo within the MAC on Oct. 4 and 5 respectively. During the 2018 season, the Falcons topped the Zips in both matches, including a home sweep. As for Buffalo, Bowling Green split the series, sweeping the Bulls in Buffalo 3-0, but falling just short at home 3-2.
Alternating home and away weekends, the regular season will conclude for the Orange and Brown at home on Nov. 14 and 16 when BGSU takes on Miami and Northern Illinois. Bowling Green was 2-0 against Miami last year and 1-0 against Northern Illinois, sweeping both teams once.
