**** FRIDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE: The start time of Saturday's DH has been moved up two hours, to 11:00 a.m. ****
SETTING THE SCENE (also titled: MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH US)
• The Bowling Green State University softball team wraps up the 2019 season this weekend, heading to Northeast Ohio for a Saturday (May 4) doubleheader. Head coach Sarah Willis and the Falcons face Kent State University, with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Diamond at Dix.
TOUCH 'EM ALL (FOUR FASCINATING FACTS ABOUT THE FALCONS)
• Junior Madi McCoy homered twice and drove in five runs in BGSU's 8-3 win over Cleveland State on Tuesday afternoon (April 30). McCoy's double-dinger day marked the third multiple-homer game by a Falcon this season.
• Senior Meredith Miller struck out 10 batters in six innings against the Vikings, recording her third consecutive win in the circle. In the process, Miller – in just her third year as a Falcon – became one of only five players in BGSU history to strike out 450 batters in her career.
• Senior Alex Sorgi stole four bases in the second game of last Saturday's (April 27) Akron twinbill, tying the BGSU single-game record. She twice got on base and proceeded to steal both second and third.
• Sorgi stole another base vs. CSU, her 30th steal of the year. Only BGSU Hall-of-Famer Amy Lienhardt has ever stolen more bases in a season.
THE REAL McCOY
• Junior Madi McCoy recorded her first two-homer game as a Falcon in Tuesday's win over Cleveland State, and her total of five runs batted in also represented a season best.
• McCoy increased her team-leading totals to nine homers and 31 RBI. She has amassed those totals despite being sidelined for two weeks in early April due to injury. McCoy is batting a team-leading .347 on the season.
• McCoy's two-homer game was the third by a Falcon this year. Senior Kellie Natham homered twice, including a two-run walk-off blast, against Oakland on March 13, while junior Evelyn Loyola homered in back-to-back innings in BGSU's 21-0 dismantling of St. Bonaventure three days later (March 16).
MILLER TIME
• Senior Meredith Miller has won each of her last three decisions, and is now 15-15 on the year. In those outings – vs. Wright State, Akron and Cleveland State – she has walked just four batters and struck out 27 in 23 innings of work.
• Miller now has a total of 181 strikeouts this year to date. That is the third-highest single-season total in school history.
• In just her third season as a Falcon, the Sugar Land, Texas, native has become only the fifth hurler in school history to strike out 450 career batters.
SORGI STEALS SUCCESSFULLY; SHE'S SELDOM STOPPED
• Senior Alex Sorgi, as mentioned, tied the school record – a record she already shared – with four stolen bases in last Saturday's second game vs. Akron. Sorgi also had four steals in a win over Mississippi Valley State last season (March 9, 2018).
• Single-game records are incomplete, but this much is known: no Falcon has ever stolen five bases in a game. Sorgi and Molly Holliday (April 2, 2015, vs. the school then known as IPFW) are the only two BGSU players with four steals in a game since 1994.
• After swiping another base vs. Cleveland State, Sorgi now has 30 stolen bases this season, the highest total by a Falcon in over 30 years. She has assumed sole possession of third place on that BG single-season list. Only BGSU Hall-of-Famer Amy Lienhardt has stolen more bases in a season. Lienhardt stole 34 bases in 1987, then shattered her own school record with 53 steals in 1988.
• Sorgi has a career total of 73 stolen bases, heading into Saturday's KSU doubleheader. She is second in school history on that list, trailing only Lienhardt (121 steals from 1985-88).
• As of Thursday morning (May 2), Sorgi leads the MAC and is ranked 27th in the nation in stolen bases this season.
THANKS, SENIORS
• Saturday was Senior Day at Meserve Field, with the seniors in the BGSU softball program recognized in ceremonies prior to the opening game against Akron. That seven-member senior class includes Kali Holcomb, Meredith Miller, Kellie Natham, Brooke Parker, Kathleen Shier, Alex Sorgi and Kiley Sosby.
• All seven seniors saw action in at least one of Saturday's games vs. the Zips.
RECORD WATCH
• Senior Alex Sorgi is one of several Falcons ranked on numerous career lists. Sorgi is second in school history with 73 career stolen bases, and will end her career in that spot, behind BG Hall-of-Famer Amy Lienhardt (121 steals from 1985-88).
• Sorgi is tied for fifth in BGSU history with 117 runs scored, and is currently tied for eighth in career walks (62). She is ranked ninth in batting average (.315) and is deadlocked for 12th in career hits (167).
• Sophomore Sarah Gonzalez has reached the minimum number of at-bats to qualify for career categories, and ranks 10th in slugging percentage, at .447.
Â
• Seniors Kali Holcomb (seven, T-fourth) and Kellie Natham (six, T-seventh) are ranked in the top-10 on the BG career chart for sacrifice flies, and Gonzalez (four) has moved into a tie for 10th place on that list.
• Senior pitchers Meredith Miller and Brooke Parker are ranked on numerous BG lists as well. Miller is listed on eight of the 11 career pitching lists kept by BGSU. She is third in school history in strikeouts per seven innings (6.16), and has moved into fifth place in total strikeouts (450). She is tied for sixth in complete games and ranks seventh in wins, eighth in both games started and innings pitched, 12th in appearances in the circle and 13th in winning percentage.
• Parker is tied for ninth in appearances, and she is deadlocked for sixth in career saves. The senior is now 11 in innings pitched, 12th in both games started and strikeouts, 13th in strikeouts per seven innings and tied for 14th in complete games.
• Fellow senior Kiley Sosby is ranked 16th in career strikeouts.

THE FLASHES
• Kent State enters the weekend with an overall record of 24-21, and the Golden Flashes are in second place in the MAC standings with a 10-4 league ledger.
• KSU is 5-4 at home this year, after splitting a doubleheader with Saint Francis (Pa.) last week (April 24). The Flashes saw last weekend's three-game series at Buffalo cancelled due to weather.
• Bailey Brownfield and Kennadie Goth are batting .360 and .352, respectively. Brownfield has team-high totals of 18 doubles and 27 RBI, while Goth is second on the team with 23 runs scored.
• Andrea Scali has started 23 games in the circle, and is 18-7 with a 2.32 ERA. She has a MAC-leading 212 strikeouts in 154 innings, and an opponent batting average of just .193. Madi Huck is 5-9 with a 6.69 ERA.
• Brenna Brownfield is batting .525 (21-for-40) in MAC games, and Scali is 8-1 with a miniscule 1.12 ERA in conference contests.
