Barber Named WCHA Forward Of The Month For December

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) announced the recipients of the December Players of the Month Thursday afternoon (Jan. 2). Of those named, sophomore Alex Barber was recognized as the Forward of the Month, being the first time in his career he has received the honor. In the month of December, Barber led the Falcons in points, tallying seven over the five games. In two of the games, Barber tallied multiple points, including a four-point effort to begin the month against Alabama Huntsville. Â

A native of Dublin, Ohio, Barber propelled the Falcons during December with two power play goals and one short-handed goal over the five games. His second goal against Alabama Huntsville and his lone goal against Lake Superior State both served as game-tying goals for Bowling Green. In addition, he tallied four assists, two of which also came on the power play. Barber's seven points paced the Falcons during the month of December, being spearheaded by a four-point effort against UAH to begin the month on Dec. 6. Nationally, Barber is currently tied for 19th in the nation for power play goals with four on the season.
The Falcons will return to the ice this coming weekend as the team returns to WCHA play, taking on Northern Michigan on Friday (Jan. 3) and Saturday (Jan. 4). The first game of the series is set for a 6:07 p.m. puck drop. Following the game, all fans with a hockey ticket will receive free admission to the BGSU men's basketball game against Kent State, beginning at 9 p.m at the Stroh Center. For Saturday's game, the time will shift back to the usual 7:07 p.m. start.
