McKinley Earns CCHA Defenseman of the Week Honors
December 08, 2025 | Ice Hockey
The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) has announced its list of weekly award winners for the weekend of Dec. 5-7. Bowling Green's Breck McKinley was awarded CCHA Defenseman of the Week for his play against Northern Michigan this past weekend, including his overtime game winning goal on Saturday night.Â
McKinley totaled three points on Saturday night, including assists on Ivan Korodiuk's goal and Quinn Emerson's game tying goal with just over a minute remaining in the game.Â
In the overtime frame, Dominik Rymon found Quinn Emerson barreling towards the Northern Michigan goal with just over a minute remaining. Emerson then cut to the middle of the ice but was tripped up on the play, and the puck found its way to McKinley, who fired the puck into the open net to win the game for the Falcons.Â
McKinley now sits at third on the team in points with 14 (one goal, 13 assists) and leads all BG defensemen in points. McKinley also sits at fourth in the CCHA in assists and has the second highest assist total for all CCHA defensemen this season.Â
Just 16 games into the season, McKinley has already doubled his career points total, as he came into the season with 13 career points combined in his first two seasons with the Falcons.Â
McKinley will look to continue his impressive season after the CCHA holiday break, as the Falcons welcome the US National Team Development Program on Dec. 29, followed by a home-and-home series with Ohio State on Jan. 2-3.
