SETTING THE SCENE...
• The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team begins the month of February with three home games in a four-game span. Head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons kick off the year's shortest month by hosting Miami University on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 1). Tipoff is set for shortly after 2:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
EVENTS / PROMOTIONS / ETC.
• National Girls & Women in Sports Day
• Pride Night
• The entire Falcon Marching Band will be at the Stroh Center on Saturday
• Post-game Autographs
THE STARTING FIVE (FIVE SOMEWHAT FASCINATING FALCON FACTS)
• Both BGSU and Miami will be playing for the first time in a week. The Falcons' original schedule called for a midweek bye following last weekend's game at Ohio. Miami had an unplanned midweek bye after Wednesday's (Jan. 29) home game vs. Western Michigan was postponed.
• The Falcons dropped a 79-69 decision to Ohio last Saturday. After each of the previous five BGSU games had come down to the wire, the Falcons fell behind early against the preseason MAC favorites. BG crept within four points midway through the third quarter, but could draw no closer.
• Three different Falcons lead the Mid-American Conference in at least one statistical category. Junior Madisen Parker leads the league – and the nation – in three-point field-goal percentage, and she also paces the conference in triples made per game.
• Junior Angela Perry leads the MAC in field-goal percentage, while sophomore Kadie Hempfling tops the conference in assists per game.
• Sahar Nusseibeh is in her first season on the Miami staff. Nusseibeh spent three years as an assistant coach at BGSU, including the 2013-14 season when BGSU went 30-5 overall, won the MAC's regular-season title with a 17-1 league record, and picked up three wins in the WNIT for the first time in program history.
PARK FROM THE ARC! (FOUR LONG-DISTANCE FACTS ABOUT NUMBER FOUR)
• Junior Madisen Parker currently leads the entire nation in three-point field-goal percentage, with a 48.6 percent success rate (a school-record pace) this season. Parker has made a team-leading 68 three-pointers this year to date, and – with at least 12 games remaining in BGSU's season – has moved into 12th place on the BGSU single-season list.
• Parker is 24 successful triples shy of tying the BG single-season record, held by the legen ... wait for it ... dary Lauren Prochaska, who hit 92 long-range shots 10 years ago (2009-10).
• The Fort Wayne, Ind., native has made at least one triple in each of this season's 19 games, and has hit three or more long-distance shots 12 times in 2019-20. She made 'only' two triples vs. WMU (Jan. 22), but was a perfect 2-for-2 from downtown, including a three-ball with 2:47 to go that gave BGSU the lead for good. Then, Parker connected five times from beyond the arc at Ohio last Saturday (Jan. 25).
• Parker now has 113 career treys, and has moved into 18th place on the BGSU career list. Not surprisingly, Prochaska holds the BG career record, with 310 successful three-pointers in her Falcon tenure (2007-11).
A QUICK LOOK AT THE REDHAWKS
• Miami, like BGSU, is 8-11 overall, and the RedHawks – like the Falcons – are 1-6 in MAC play. MU is looking to snap a five-game losing streak, with three of those losses by single digits. MU's conference win was a 66-64 decision vs. Northern Illinois.
• Miami is 4-2 at home, 3-8 on the road and 1-1 at neutral sites.
• Lauren Dickerson leads the team with 16.2 ppg, followed by Savannah Kluesner (13.9 ppg) and Peyton Scott (11.6 ppg). Dickerson leads MU in assists (3.7 apg), while Kluesner has a team-high 8.5 rpg and leads the MAC in blocks (1.8 bpg).
• Head coach DeUnna Hendrix, in her first season in Oxford, inherited nine returning players, including two starters, from a 2018-19 RedHawk squad that finished with records of 23-9 overall and 13-5 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
The Falcons lead Miami, 51-33, in the all-time series between the teams, and BG has won six of the last 12 meetings, but the RedHawks have captured the last five matchups. MU swept last year's games, with an 82-75 victory at the Stroh (Feb. 9, 2019) and a 75-62 verdict in Oxford just two weeks later (Feb. 23, 2019). BGSU is 24-15 in home games, 21-17 in road contests and 6-1 in neutral-site events vs. the Redskins/RedHawks over the years.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following the Miami melee, the Falcons will head to Kent for a midweek matchup with the Golden Flashes. The teams will meet on Wednesday (Feb. 5), in a 7:00 p.m start at the M.A.C. Center. Then, BG returns home to face Northern Illinois (Feb. 8) and Eastern Michigan (Feb. 12) at the Stroh.
