East Reaches Career Milestone Friday Against Central Michigan

Bowling Green, Ohio – A short-handed Bowling Green State University gymnastics team was unable to overcome one of the top teams in the Mid-American Conference Friday as Central Michigan defeated the Falcons 195.400-191.850.
FINAL RESULTS
BGSU led after one rotation but the Falcons struggled in the middle two sets before rebounding on the floor exercise to close out the meet. Senior Jovannah East won the vault and placed in the top three on beam, floor and in the all-around to go over 100 career top-three finishes. She entered the meet with 98 in her star-studded career.

TEAM SCORING
- Bowling Green opened the meet with a 48.675 on the vault, just shy of the team's season best score of 48.800. The Falcons led after that opening rotation as Central Michigan posted a 48.450 on uneven bars.
- BGSU had just five available competitors on uneven bars and the Falcons posted a team score of 46.900 to fall behind as Central Michigan recorded a 48.700 on vault.
- After a 47.625 on balance beam, BGSU rebounded with a 48.650 on floor, the team's second-best score of the year.
HIGHLIGHTING THE ALL-AROUND COMPETITION
- The meet featured two of the Mid-American Conference's most talented all-around competitors in Central Michigan's Denelle Petrick and Bowling Green's Jovannah East, and that competition did not disappoint.
- East scored a 9.850 on vault in the opening rotation, while Pedrick equaled her with a 9.850 on bars.
- The duo flipped events for the second rotation and each scored a 9.725.
- The third rotation proved to be the difference in the final all-around results as East put up a 9.850 on beam and Pedrick scored 9.875 on floor.
- In the final rotation, East and Pedrick both scored a 9.825 with East on floor and Pedrick on beam.
- The final all-around score went to Pedrick 39.275-39.250.
- For East, it was her second-best all-around score of the year, just behind a 39.300 against Eastern Michigan.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Freshman Lily Harsch scored a career-best 9.700 on vault.
- Sophomore Katelyn Goldstrom had a season-high score of 9.700 on uneven bars and tied her career-best with a 9.650 on floor.
- Freshman Olivia Williams recorded a career-best 9.625 on floor.
- Redshirt freshman Tess Muir competed on floor for the first time in 2020 and scored a 9.675.
- Junior Samantha Marion placed third on vault with a 9.775.
- Senior Taylor Worthington tied Jovannah East for second place on balance beam with a 9.850.
UP NEXT
- BGSU has little time to dwell on Friday night's results as the Falcons hit the road for a quad meet at West Virginia Saturday.
- The Falcons will begin at 1:00 pm and will join Towson and Western Michigan at West Virginia.
