IT'S BEEN A WHILE
Redshirt freshman Tess Muir made her return to the lineup against Eastern Michigan. Muir competed on vault, beam and floor a year ago until an injury ended her season after just four meets. She took to the balance beam against EMU and posted a personal best score of 9.775. Muir added a spot start on the floor exercise against Central Michigan and scored a 9.675.
Junior Alex Fochler missed the entire 2019 season after performing on uneven bars in 2018. She returned to the lineup this year. After a slow start against Eastern Michigan, she earned medalist honors in back-to-back meets at Rutgers and at Ball State. She recorded scores of 9.850 and 9.800 in those two contests and has finished in the top three in six consecutive meets in which she has competed. She is now tied for eighth in the MAC on the event.
Redshirt sophomore Samantha Marion earned MAC Specialist Of The Week honors following her performance at Eastern Michigan and she has competed on beam and vault in each of the first seven meets. Marion had not competed in her first two years at Bowling Green due to injuries, but is ranked seventh in the MAC on vault this year.
MAKING AN IMPACT
With the season more than halfway complete, a handful of Falcons are making larger impacts in the lineup than they previously have.
Senior Jovannah East is averaging a 9.607 on bars, ahead of last year's 9.553. She is also ahead of last year's average on floor with a 9.850. Another senior, Taylor Worthington, is scoring 9.707 on beam, ahead of her average of 9.658 in 2019, and easily a career-best.
Junior Alex Fochler is averaging a 9.620 on floor, competing in the event for the first time in her career. She also has posted a career-best 9.668 average on bars. Junior Elena Lawson is posting career-best averages on vault (9.725), bars (9.569) and floor (9.763), while junior Samantha Marion is in the lineup for the first time in her career, scoring a 9.794 on vault and a 9.513 on beam.
Sophomore Katelyn Goldstrom competed in just one rotation a year ago, but is taking part in three this year. Her average of 9.494 on bars is markedly better than her 9.150 a year ago, while she is also competing on vault and floor, averaging a 9.575 on the latter. Another sophomore, Paige Bachner, is competing on bars for the first time in her career and she has posted a 9.483 average.
Redshirt freshman Tess Muir is averaging a 9.366 on balance beam, an improvement from 9.156 in 2019 before injury cut her season short.Â
