Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green returns two linebackers who started at least 10 games a year ago in Kholbe Coleman and Jerry Roberts. Add in Evan Brown, who has played in 20 games over the last two seasons, and the Falcons have a strong nucleus at the position. Despite that trio, the Falcons are still relatively young at the position.
Â
"Our linebackers have been working hard to improve their knowledge of both our defensive system as well as the game itself," Linebackers Coach Steve Morrison said. "As a relatively young and inexperienced unit, that is a critical component to their growth and development. I'm looking forward to a competitive fall."
Â
Coleman led the Falcons with 103 tackles, recording 48 solo and forced two fumbles. He was selected third team All-MAC and started 10 games for the Falcons. Roberts added 60 tackles, with 33 of the solo variety, and forced a fumble against Ohio. Brown, who began his collegiate career as a member of the BGSU baseball team, had seven tackles and a blocked kick.
Â
True sophomore Darren Anders played in 11 games in 2019 and had 20 tackles on the season, including 2.5 for loss and a sack. Redshirt senior Isaiah Johnson-Mack, a converted wide receiver who transferred from Washington State, adds intrigue at the position. Behind that group is seven talented linebackers who have yet to prove themselves on the field. They include redshirt junior Robert Atkinson, freshman Donovan Bickelhaupt and a host of redshirt freshmen – Brock Horne, Brennan Spiess, Jacob Allen, Justin Schiets and James Miller.
Â
The Falcons added four more linebackers in the most recent signing class to provide even more depth. They include JB Brown, Jaylen Lawson, Aaron Washington and Fortune Woods.
