Bowling Green, Ohio - BGSU returns several young, but experienced, wide receivers for the 2020 season. While the Falcons broke in several newcomers a year ago, those opportunities should play dividends this fall.
Â
Chief among the young returners is redshirt sophomore Julian Ortega-Jones. After catching 20 passes for 298 yards in 2019, he will look to have a breakout season. Last season was Ortega-Jones' first year playing for the Falcons, after recovering from knee surgery. He was a standout athlete at North Crowley High School in Fort Worth, Texas, also lettering in baseball and track & field.
Â
Receiver and punt returner Jake Rogers, a sophomore, also returns for the Falcons, and was a standout athlete at Medina High School. Â
Â
"I am excited about this group of receivers," Wide Receivers Coach Erik Campbell said. "I like the way they come to work each and every day trying to improve. Between now and the beginning of the season, they need to continue grasping the knowledge of the system. They should be fun to watch."
Â
Redshirt sophomore Noah Massey and redshirt freshman Tyrone Broden also saw time on the field in 2019. Massey had one catch in a redshirt season last fall, but had three catches and a touchdown in his true freshman season in 2018.
Â
The Falcons had a handful of receivers who gained experience on the practice field in their true freshmen seasons, including Parker Sherry, PaSean Wimberly, Nick Niehoff, and Jack Duffer. Redshirt junior Cavon Croom was also a member of the unit. True freshman Javonte Kinsey enrolled early and showed promise in limited spring practices.
Â
Along with Kinsey, the Falcons will add true freshman receivers in Jhaylin Embry, Charles Rosser and Shon Strickland.
