SETTING THE SCENE
• The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team begins the 2021 calendar year and the road portion of the Mid-American Conference schedule on Saturday (Jan. 2). Head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons travel to Muncie, Ind., to face Ball State University, with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Worthen Arena.
• The Falcons concluded the December schedule with a 71-66 win over Miami at the Stroh Center on Dec. 22. Freshman Lexi Fleming had a game-high 26 points, the highest total of her young career, while fellow first-year Falcons Nyla Hampton (11) and Kenzie Lewis (10) also hit double digits in the scoring column.
• For the Falcons, the Miami game began a stretch of 19-straight MAC games to conclude the 2020-21 regular-season schedule.

FLEMING'S A FANTASTIC FLEDGLING
• Freshman Lexi Fleming has gotten off to an impressive start to her BGSU career, to say the very least. The Cincinnati native had 26 points, the highest total of her young career, in the Falcons' win over Miami (Dec. 22). It marked her seventh double-digit effort in as many games this season. She is the third player in as many years to score 10 or more points in at least six games to start the season. But, Fleming's feat is only the sixth time since 1993 that a BGSU player has hit double digits in at least the first seven games of the year. The complete list is in the PDF version of these notes.
SIX-AND-ONE FALCONS
• BGSU's win vs. Miami improved the Falcons' record to 6-1 on the young season, marking the third time in the last decade that BGSU has won six of the first seven games. Both the 2013-14 and '17-18 teams began the year at 6-1, and both of those clubs won game number eight to improve to 7-1 on the season.
TWO-AND-OH FALCONS
• The Falcons enter Saturday's Ball State game with a record of 2-0 in MAC play to date. BGSU defeated Eastern Michigan (Dec. 11), winning the conference opener for the first time since the 2015-16 season, then topped Miami 11 days later.
• BG is off to a 2-0 start in the MAC for the first time since 2013-14, when the Falcons began league action with a 4-0 record, en route to a 17-1 conference mark and a MAC regular-season championship.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE CARDINALS
• Ball State is 3-3 on the young season, and the Cardinals are 1-1 in MAC play entering Saturday's game. BSU has won three-straight games, all on the road, after an 0-3 start to the year.
• Most recently, the Cards picked up a 67-60 win at Akron on Dec. 20. BSU also has wins vs. Western Kentucky and Bellarmine, with losses to Milwaukee, IUPUI and Eastern Michigan.
• Essence Booker has 13.3 points per game to pace four double-digit scorers, while Thelma Dis Agustsdottir has 11.0 ppg. Oshlynn Brown, who missed the first four games, has 10.5 ppg and a team-high 9.0 rebounds per game, with Sydney Freeman scoring an even 10.0 ppg.
• The Cardinals are 0-2 at home and 3-1 on the road to date. Head coach Brady Sallee welcomed back nine players from a 2019-20 club that finished with an overall record of 21-10 and a MAC mark of 13-5.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Ball State, 44-24, in the all-time series, but the Cardinals have captured 10 consecutive matchups. Last season's lone meeting saw BSU escape the Stroh with an 86-80 overtime decision. The Cards won a 77-70 contest in the last meeting in Muncie, two years ago (Jan. 9, 2019).
• BGSU is 24-7 in home games, 18-14 in road contests and 2-3 in neutral-site events vs. the Cardinals over the years.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following the BSU game, the Falcons will face Western Michigan on Wednesday (Jan. 6). That game will begin at 1:00 p.m. at University Arena in Kalamazoo.
