SETTING THE SCENE – BGSU HEADS TO CLEVELAND AS TOURNEY TIME IS HERE
• The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team, after winning the 2020-21 Mid-American Conference regular-season championship, now focuses on the MAC Tournament. Head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons, the tourney's top seed, will meet eighth-seeded Eastern Michigan University in Wednesday's (March 10) quarterfinal round, with tipoff at 11:00 a.m. at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
• The BGSU-EMU winner will advance to Friday's (March 12) semifinal round to face the winner of Wednesday's second game, pitting Buffalo vs. Kent State.
• BGSU won 10 of 12 games to end the regular season, and the only two losses in that time were by one point each. One of those setbacks, however, came in the regular-season finale. The Falcons rallied back from a 20-point deficit, but Buffalo escaped the Stroh Center with a 69-68 win in overtime.
• The Falcons, after going 10-21 overall and 3-15 in the MAC last season, were picked to finish 11th in the 12-team league in 2020-21, according to the preseason coaches' poll. BG ended the regular season with records of 18-5 overall and 14-4 in the MAC.

RING SZN
• The Falcons, as mentioned, have won 15 MAC regular-season championships, the most of any conference school. BGSU captured three-straight league crowns in 1987, '88 and '89 under head coach Fran Voll, and Jaci Clark's teams won back-to-back MAC regular-season titles in 1993 and '94.
• Curt Miller's teams won an unprecedented eight-straight conference regular-season titles, from 2005 through 2012. BG captured seven of those eight titles outfield (the Falcons won the East Division in 2011, but did not have the league's best overall record that season).
• Jennifer Roos guided the Falcons to a MAC regular-season trophy in 2014, and Robyn Fralick becomes the fifth different head coach to lead the program to a conference regular-season crown.

THE FALCONS IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT
• BGSU enters Wednesday's EMU game with an all-time record of 44-25 in MAC Tournament contests. The Falcons have won 11 league tournament titles, the most of any conference institution, and BG has the second-highest winning percentage (.638) of any team in league tourney games. BGSU's conference tournament win total also places the Falcons second among MAC teams. A complete list of BGSU's game-by-game results in MAC Tournament play can be found in the PDF version of these notes.
FALCONS VS. EMU IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT
• The Falcons and EMU are meeting for the eighth time in MAC Tournament play, and the first time in 10 years. BGSU is 5-2 in tourney meetings with Eastern, including a 2-0 mark in home games, an 0-1 record in Ypsilanti and a 3-1 record at neutral sites.
• All four of those neutral-site meetings have been at the venue now known as Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The teams met at then-Gund Arena three times in four years between 2004-07, and the most recent meeting came in the championship game of the 2011 tourney (at then-Quicken Loans Arena).
• The Falcons are 0-1 in the first round, 2-0 in both the quarterfinals and semifinals and 1-1 in championship-game matchups with EMU.

CLEVELAND ROCKS!
• BGSU has had great success at the arena known as Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse over the years, and the Falcons enjoyed an incredible run at the building during a decade-long span from 2004-13.
• The Falcons lost their first-ever game at then-Gund Arena, in the 2001 MAC Tournament. BGSU then went 20-3 at Gund/Quicken Loans Arena from 2004-11. The Falcons posted two buzzer-beating wins in Cleveland to get to the 2004 title game before succumbing.
• Then, Curt Miller's Falcons won 10-straight games in the building, capturing three consecutive titles from 2005-07 before being upset in double overtime in the 2008 semifinals.
• BG won two games to advance to the 2009 title match before falling by four points to Ball State, and the Falcons then captured six consecutive games in the venue en route to the 2010 and '11 championships.
• Since then, however, the Falcons have gone 1-3 in the building, and BG has not played a MAC Tournament game in Cleveland since the 2014 semifinals.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE EAGLES
• Eastern Michigan is 10-9 overall, and the Eagles finished MAC play with a 7-7 record. Areanna Combs and Ce'Nara Skanes are averaging 18.2 and 16.2 points per game, respectively. Skanes is averaging a double-double, with 10.9 rebounds per game on the year as well, while Combs has 6.2 rpg. Jenna Annecchiarico has 9.9 ppg and has made a team-leading 30 three-point field goals.
• The Eagles were 3-5 at home and 6-3 on the road this season. In the MAC, EMU went 3-4 in Ypsilanti and 4-3 away from home. Head coach Fred Castro welcomed back a total of 11 players from a 2019-20 club that finished 16-15 overall and 9-9 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Eastern Michigan, 52-20, in the all-time series, and BGSU has captured 15 of the last 21 meetings, including a narrow 71-64 decision at the Stroh Center in this season's lone regular-season matchup (Dec. 11, 2020). That win snapped a five-game EMU series win streak.
• The Falcons are 29-6 in home games, 20-13 on the road and 3-1 at neutral sites vs. EMU through the years. Much more series information can be found on page 26 of the PDF version of these notes.
