Sam Craggs Returning For 2021-22 Season
"The 2021-2022 Hockey Schedule is a really good one and we are excited to get back to being close to normal!" said Head Coach Ty Eigner. "We have three really good non-conference series next fall, at RPI and home-and-home series with both Miami and Ohio State. The last two non-conference games will be in Milwaukee at the Holiday Face Off with Providence, Yale and Wisconsin. We are also looking forward to the first year of the new CCHA and the competition that the new league will bring."
The Falcons will kickoff the 2021-22 season on October 8 with the first of a two-game set in Troy, N.Y. against RPI. The series will bring the all-time series to 20 games played between the teams, entering with a close record. RPI currently leads the series 9-8-1. The last meeting came during the 2010-11 season when RPI won 3-2 in overtime to take the series all-time series lead.Â
After an off-weekend, the Orange and Brown will prepare for a home-and-home series against the Miami RedHawks, including the home opener at the Slater Family Ice Arena on October 23. The Falcons will then open up conference play against Bemidji State on October 29 and 30, playing a CCHA series for the first time since March 2013. The series is set to take place in Bemidji, Minn.
Bowling Green will welcome the CCHA back to the Slater Family Ice Arena on Nov. 5 and 6 as they take on St. Thomas with both games set for 7:07 p.m. puck drops. With St. Thomas making the jump to Division-I, this will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.
The 2021-22 schedule will take the Falcons back on the road the following weekend for a series against Minnesota State on Nov. 12 and 13 before returning home on Nov. 19 and 20 to take on Lake Superior State. From there, BGSU will travel north to face Northern Michigan on Nov. 26 and 27 before an off-weekend on Dec. 3 and 4.Â
Out of the off-weekend the Falcons will host Ferris State on Dec. 10 and 11 before a home-and-home non-conference series against Ohio State with Bowling Green hosting the second game of the series on Dec. 17. All-time, the Orange and Brown lead the series with a record of 94-63-9-3. The last series between the Falcons and Buckeyes took place during the 2018-19 season and saw BGSU win the first game 8-2 in Bowling Green before a 2-2 tie in Columbus.Â
After the Ohio State series, the Falcons will participate in the Holiday Faceoff on Dec. 28 and 29 in Milwaukee, Wis. The Falcons will first play Providence on Dec. 28 before facing either Wisconsin or Yale on Dec. 29.Â
Once the calendar flips over to 2022, Bowling Green will start their second round of CCHA matchups, beginning with their first trip to St. Paul, Minn. to oppose St. Thomas on Jan. 7 and 8. The Falcons will return home the following weekend on Jan. 14 and 15 to face another Minnesota opponent in Bemidji State before an off-weekend on Jan. 21 and 22.
After the brief break, BGSU will travel into Michigan to face Ferris State on Jan. 28 and 29 before being back at the Slater Family Ice Arena on Feb. 4 and 5 to host Minnesota State. From there, the Falcons will be back on the road to face Michigan Tech for the first and only time during the regular season with the series set for Feb. 11 and 12 in Houghton, Mich.
The home portion of the regular season will round out for Bowling Green on Feb. 18 and 19 as the Falcons host Northern Michigan. The regular season as a whole will conclude on Feb. 25 and 26 in Sault St. Marie, Mich. against Lake Superior state.Â
The postseason in the CCHA will see the Quarterfinals on March 4-6, the Semifinals on March 11-12 and the CCHA Finals on March 19. As for the NCAA Tournament, Regional matchups will be played on March 25-26 with the Frozen Four set for April 7-9.Â
