THE OPENING TIP
• The Falcons are 6-5 on the season, and BGSU is 1-1 in MAC action. BG saw a five-game winning streak come to an end with an 82-66 loss to Buffalo on Wednesday night (Jan. 5).
• The Falcons went a perfect 4-0 in the month of December after losing the last two November games by a combined six points, and BG began January with a 24-point win (82-58) over Ball State in New Year's Day's MAC opener at the Stroh.
• BGSU is 15-5 in MAC regular-season games since the start of the 2020-21 season, including a 6-2 record in conference road games.
• Saturday's game marks just the second true road contest of 2021-22 for the Falcons. BGSU is 4-2 at home, 0-1 on the road and 2-2 in neutral-site matchups. The only previous true road game came at #21/25 Ohio State in mid-November.
• Senior Kadie Hempfling made her 100th career start – and her 100th consecutive start – in a BGSU uniform on Wednesday night vs. Buffalo. After coming off the bench to make her collegiate debut (at Michigan State; Nov. 6, 2018), Hempfling has started every BG contest since that time. Hempfling is just the 14th player in school history to start at least 100 career games.
• Senior Madisen Parker is tied for fourth in BGSU history with 216 career three-pointers made. She went a perfect 3-for-3 from the arc against Ball State, and is deadlocked with Liz Honegger (2003-07) on the career list. Tracy Pontius (2007-11) sits in third place with 235 career triples made.
FALCONS VS. THE MAC
• BGSU won the MAC opener for the second-straight season, downing Ball State on New Year's Day. Last year, the Falcons posted a 71-64 win over Eastern Michigan in the first conference contest of the season (Dec. 11, 2020). It snapped a four-game losing streak in league openers.
• Overall, the Falcons own the second-best record in MAC history. Entering the Akron matchup, BGSU has an all-time record of 425-246 (.633) in MAC regular-season games, for the second-highest winning percentage of all league institutions. BG also has the second-most conference wins of all 12 programs.
• BGSU leads the all-time series with all 11 MAC foes, making the Falcons the only team in the league with a winning record against every other school. BG also has the most overall victories and highest overall winning pct. of any league institution.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE ZIPS
• Akron is 4-4 on the season, and the Zips are 1-1 in MAC play. After dropping a narrow 64-58 decision at Toledo, UA defeated Kent State by a 62-61 final on Wednesday night (Jan. 5). UA is 2-0 at home and 2-4 on the road this season, and the BGSU game will be the Zips' first home game since Nov. 29.
• Jordyn Dawson leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, with 18.0 points and 8.0 boards per game, while Reagan Bass and Layne Ferrell have 8.3 and 8.1 ppg, respectively. Head coach Melissa Jackson welcomed back nine players from a 2020-21 club that went 7-14 overall and 4-14 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Akron, 57-11, in the all-time series, and BGSU has captured each of the last two meetings. Last season, the Falcons picked up a 66-57 win at the Stroh Center (Jan. 20, 2021), then downed the Zips by a 79-64 count at Rhodes Arena (Feb. 27, 2021). The latter game enabled the Orange and Brown to clinch the MAC regular-season championship. Akron's last win over the Falcons was a 70-61 triumph in Akron on the final day of the 2019-20 regular season (March 7, 2020). BGSU is 30-4 in home games, 25-7 on the road and 2-0 at neutral sites vs. UA over the years.
