THE OPENING TIP – STREAKS, STORYLINES AND SIDEBARS
• The Falcons are looking to bounce back from a 72-64 loss at Western Michigan Wednesday night (Feb. 16). Amy Velasco and Nyla Hampton scored 18 and 10 points, respectively, while Jocelyn Tate had eight points, six rebounds, three assists and a game- and career-high six steals. Tate was a perfect 3-for-3 from the field.
• Kenzie Lewis had seven points and a team-leading eight boards at WMU. Over the last two games, Lewis has made 7-of-8 shots from the floor and has averaged 8.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.0 steals.
• The Falcons set a Stroh Center record in Monday's (Feb. 14) 94-61 win over Miami. BGSU shot 59.7% from the field in the victory, a new arena mark for field-goal pct. in a game. The old mark of 58.7% was set by Baylor on March 18, 2012, as the eventual national champs beat UC Santa Barbara in the NCAA tourney's first round.
• Five players scored in double figures for the Falcons against Miami, while Lewis flirted with a quadruple-double vs. the RedHawks. Lewis had nine points on perfect 4-for-4 shooting, and also posted game-high totals of eight assists, seven rebounds and six steals to lead all players in all three categories.
• BGSU is 21-11 in MAC regular-season games since the start of the 2020-21 season, after going 8-46 in the previous three seasons (2017-18 to '19-20). That 21-11 record includes a 13-4 mark at the Stroh and an 8-7 ledger in league road games.
• Madisen Parker recently broke the school record for games played, and she is moving up another BGSU career list. Parker has made a total of 230 three-point field goals in her career, good for fourth place on that BGSU chart. Her next target is Tracy Pontius (2007-11), who hit 235 treys in her storied Falcon career.
• The Falcons have set arena records for shooting in each of the last two home games. BG shot 63.6% from three-point range in the win over NIU. BGSU went 14-for-22 from the arc, and broke the old mark of 57.9% (11-of-19), set by the Falcons on Nov. 29, 2011, vs. Western Kentucky.
• As a team, the Falcons have made at least one three-point field goal in 542 consecutive games over the last 17 years. That is the fifth-longest active streak in the nation.
• Kadie Hempfling has now started 112 career games at BGSU, and ranks seventh on that school list. She has a shot to move into the top-five in school history in that category by the end of the regular season.
• Hempfling is also ranked on the BGSU career lists for scoring (25th), rebounding (11th), assists (sixth) and three-pointers made (T-20th). Parker has broken into the top 40 on the BG career scoring chart, and currently is tied for 36th.
• Entering Saturday's game, Morgan Sharps leads the MAC – and is third in the nation – in three-point field-goal percentage. She has hit 46.0% of her long-distance shots this season.
BG BENCH BUNCH IS BRINGIN' IT
• BGSU has gotten a great deal of production from the bench this season. In fact, by several measurements, the Falcons' bench bunch has been the most productive in the MAC by far this season to date.
• BG players have come off the bench to score a combined 325 points in MAC play this season. That total is nearly 50 points higher than any other team in the league. The Falcons' average of 23.2 ppg off the bench leads the conference by a wide margin, as does BGSU's differential of +8.7 bench points per contest.
• All of the bench-related numbers can be found in the PDF version of these notes.
