Falcons' Comeback Falls Short In Game Two Against Billikens
February 19, 2022 | Baseball
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the top of the second the Falcons put together a two-out rally. Jack Krause was hit by a pitch to start the spurt for BGSU. Ryan Johnston moved Krause over to third with a single before Adam Fallon hit him in with a single to left to put Bowling Green up 1-0.
- Bowling Green added another run in the third. Nathan Rose stepped to the plate with runners on first and third and delivered a single for BGSU. The base knock scored Tyler Ross from third to extend the Falcons' lead to 2-0.
- Saint Louis responded with an outburst in the bottom of the third. Back-to-back doubles brought home the first three runs before a single to center tallied a fourth, giving the Billikens a 4-2 lead and forcing Bowling Green to make a call to the bullpen.
- Two walks later in the inning pushed two more runs across the plate before a single tallied an additional two to give Saint Louis an 8-2 lead after three.
- The Falcons soon answered. In the top of the fifth, Adam Furnas blasted his first home run of the season, a two-run shot with Kyle Gurney on. The round trip for Furnas cut the deficit down to 8-4 Billikens.
- Saint Louis added another run to their tally in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 9-4.
- Krause and Fallon combined for two doubles in the sixth for the Falcons. Fallon's hit scored Krause. Fallon later came around to score on a pass ball bringing the score to 9-6.
- Krause began the eighth inning with a double down the left field line. A Johnston walk was followed by a successful double steal, giving BG runners at second and third. Fallon grounded out, but it was enough to score Krause and cut into the lead again, 9-7.
- The Falcons continued to apply the pressure late. In the top of the ninth, Krause singled to score Furnas, making it a one-run game. The scoring would unfortunately end there with Saint Louis escaping with a 9-8 win.

COACH HALLOCK'S QUOTE
"This team has a lot of character. The ability to continue to fight back after digging ourselves a hole early is an indicator of this team's toughness. That alone will give us the opportunity to win a lot of games. Our players trust one another and will continue to learn from games like today.
We have Adam Furnas, Jack Krause, Adam Fallon and a number of other guys rolling right now offensively through two games. It's been a bright spot to see this early in the year. Isaiah Seidel was phenomenal today in his appearance. He performed at a high level like Jeremy Spezia and Joel Roediger did in relief yesterday.
There are a couple areas we need to tighten up. We have to manage the inherited runner situations much better, and make a couple more plays defensively to get us out of jams. We have pitched and defended it pretty well for 15 of the 17 innings but allowing the big inning the way we have is tough to overcome at any level of baseball.
This team cares and will continue to build from today's setback."
