Krause Belts Two Home Runs For BGSU In Weekend Finale
February 27, 2022 | Baseball
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons got the scoring going in the top of the first. Hitting out of the two spot, Tyler Ross logged a single before stealing second. Ross came around to score on a Nathan Rose double down the right field line, granting BGSU a 1-0 lead.
- Austin Peay answered in the bottom half of the inning. A leadoff double allowed a single later in the inning to knot the score up at 1-1 after one.
- The Governors hung a crooked number in the second frame. After a walk and single to begin the inning, a bunt put runners at second and third for APSU. A single up the middle scored both runs, pushing Austin Peay ahead 3-1 after two.
- Bowling Green quickly responded in the top of the third. Kyle Gurney began the inning by reaching base on an error followed by an Adam Furnas single to give BGSU runners at first and second with no outs. Tyler Haas stepped into the box two batters later with two outs on the board and delivered an RBI single to center to score Furnas.
- Jared Johnson came to the plate next with runners at the corners. Johnson was able to knock his first hit of the season, bringing in Rose to tie it up at 3-3.
- Austin Peay reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third with a two-out rally. With one on, back-to-back doubles brought around two runs for the Governors to put them back up 5-3.
- The Governors added another run in the fourth. With the bases loaded, a single tallied APSU's sixth run of the game to extend their lead to 6-3.
- The scoreboard was silent until the top of the eighth inning when Jack Krause led off with a solo shot to right field, his first home run of the season, to cut the deficit to 6-4.
- The Falcons' fifth run crossed later in the inning. Gurney drew a two-out bases loaded walk with Haas scoring to bring BGSU within one at 6-5.
- The Governors earned a run in the same fashion in the bottom half of the inning, using a bases loaded walk to gain an insurance run at 7-5.
- In the top of the ninth, Krause blasted his second home run of the game, another shot to right field to bring the score to 7-6 APSU.
- The Falcons were unable to get another run across in the inning, seeing a 7-6 final.

COACH HALLOCK'S QUOTE
"We started off today's game with some positive at-bats. Ross, Furnas and Rose came up clutch with applying pressure in those early innings. Jack Krause gave us a big spark in the later innings when he got extended on those two home runs. He competed very well to get his pitch and put a good swing on it both times.
Andrew Abrahamowicz came in and did a solid job out of the bullpen for us with four quality innings. Logan Bell took a step forward by getting a big out with the bases loaded to keep us close.
Playing complementary baseball is a feature that we have to execute. The next step for us is to come together as a team to make winning on the road easier for us. When we score, we must get the shutdown inning and roll the zero. That means taking care of the lead off hitter and making the 50/50 plays defensively with two outs. When we hit a lull offensively, wherever we are at in the lineup, that leadoff hitter has to get us going a little sooner.
We have the right group of guys to learn from this weekend, and make adjustments in practice this week before heading to Eastern Kentucky next weekend."
UP NEXT
Bowling Green's next series will take the Falcons to Eastern Kentucky next weekend for a three-game series. The series will span March 4-6 and will be played in Richmond, Ky. at Earle Combs Stadium.
