RICHMOND, Ky. – The Bowling Green State University baseball program began the weekend series against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels on Friday (March 4). Adam Fallon began the game with a leadoff home run in the top of the first, but EKU went on to tally four unanswered runs to take a 4-1 win. The loss moves BGSU to 2-5 on the season. The Falcons and Colonels will return to the field on Saturday for a doubleheader, beginning at 2:00 p.m. This will mark the first doubleheader of the season for Bowling Green.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Adam Fallon started the game off with a bang, sending a 3-1 pitch over the right field wall to grant the Falcons a 1-0 lead to start the weekend.
Eastern Kentucky answered in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run home run to take a 3-1 lead after one.
The scoring would be silent until the fifth inning when a single up the middle scored a runner from second to bring the score to 4-1, the eventual final.

FALCON STAT FACTS

The leadoff home run was the first of the season for Adam Fallon. It also marks the first home run to begin a game by Fallon during his collegiate career.
Freshman Connar Penrod has now made two relief appearances this season, each going three innings. Over the six innings total, Penrod has allowed just one hit while logging four strikeouts for the Falcons.

"The difference between winning and losing early in a series normally comes down to about three or four key at bats for each team. We learned the hard way what it is like to be on the wrong end of those battles. Both sides created those opportunities early in the game and EKU produced better than we did in those moments.

We know who we can be because we did it all week in practice. Now it's time to transfer it to the game. We have another chance to get some momentum going tomorrow."

UP NEXT
Bowling Green and Eastern Kentucky will conclude their three-game series on Saturday (March 5) with a doubleheader. The game originally scheduled for Sunday was moved to Saturday due to incoming weather. The first game of the day is set for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.
